And the deadening all applied, pod mounted to the door and speaker screwed into the pod:

How does it sound? I don't know... I won't have it connected to the amp until I get the other door done.

One thing to note, these are home theater speakers, so they're rated at 8 ohms impedance, rather than 4 ohms usually used in car stereos. To deal with this, I'm running the two rear speakers in parallel to provide a total 4 ohm load to the amp. Both speakers will be connected in bridge configuration to the rear channels of the four channel amp, so they will receive a s**tload of power.

Another reason why I chose these particular speakers is because they have a low resonant frequency (fs value) and a high QTS value. Supposedly this combination works really well in car doors, but I guess I'll find out for real soon enough...

Yeah, I'll low-pass filter them at around 250-300 Hz, so basically midbass and whatever deeper bass I can get out of these speakers. I'll have a level control under the dash in the front to adjust the volume of the rear woofers too.

Its usually only me and the missus in the car, but when I have rear passengers I can switch the rear speakers to full-range with the flick of a switch on the amp, but of course they will be a bit dull without any tweeters installed..

Sweet install mate. I use to work for Strathfield and Cartronics as an installer and yet have done nothing too mine to make it sound better. Water crossings aren't to common unfortunately in SA to worry too much about water in the door cavity.

Just purchased some 3 way splits for the front and looking to put a 10" sub in the rear trim cavity. Get a decent sized sealed box in there for sure.

Where you live mate? I'm down south but work north. Should catch up for a bevvy and talk some S&%^

10 inch sub in the rear cavity.. nice idea. I know you can fit a 20-something litre water bladder in one of the sides as long as you don't have the rear air conditioner, so a fibreglass box could get a decent volume for sure

                fantastic write up and pics,
i would be interested in a "rear cavity sub box"
guess its similar to the factory stealth boxes available in the US
keep us posted on any developments please
                thanks

Justin did you finish that rear door enclosure? as I would like to build one as well.

I simply used an amplified subwoofer, it does not look as nice, but a much faster way to real bass

Hehe... i put 3 way components into my front doors with 250wrms into each door plus a sub. What was hilarious was pulling up beside a P plater with his boot rattling and my entire front doors rattling from the 6.5"woofer. Then I finally got around to finishing the sound deadening and it helped... a bit.
