  • Installing parking sensors

    Hey ppers.

Well we went and bought an 07 grande. Now I know it has a reverse camera, but the mrs has a real problem with hitting things while parking in shopping car parks. Has anyone installed parking sensors? Can u install sensors wide enough to monitor things just to the side of the bumper as well as directly behind? And how hard is t to do OR how much does it cost to have the installed?

would like this to be the first car she doesn't scrape if at all possible.

    Cheers

ps we got a 07 grande with just under 190k on the clock with spotties, bullbar, uhf, lift, dual battery, winch with plasma rope, etc. PETROL not DIEsel this time. 2 bad diesels was enough. Thanks for pp help think we got a good deal at $21k thanks again.

Gday mate, very possible job, if you're a little handy, you can do it yourself if not can have it done professionally for around $300. (I charge $320 for colour matched)

I'maway from my office at the moment but a bit later on I will go through a walk through and post it up for you.

Edit. Just to clarify, me listing my $320 is not an attempt at advertising but to show price point. The carkit company charge $299 for black and $329 for colour. Park mate in Sydney charge less than both of us from memory.

Thanks heaps ranj. The price is much appreciated. So few ppl put prices up these days. Ok with the tools. Always willing to have a go. Also have loads of qualified mates. Maybe a case of beer and an afternoon might get it done. What's a plain kit cost? Cheers.

Sorryu mate, never put up a walk through! A reasonable quality kit will set you back about 50-100. I personally really like the Parkmate sensors and Vision sensors. If you want colour coded, I can organize a set for you at my cost (about $160 inc from memory) would just need your paint code. Failing that, here is the Parkmate for $90 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/STEELMATE...item2a2f12eae9

        Steelmate/Parkmate are same thing.

Side note, colour matching them yourself is not all that difficult to get a good finish.

While I do the install a little differently... this guy pretty much nailed it. I also don't use kits that have displays unless asked for. I think they look tacky.

FYI, http://www.toyota-tech.eu/ has some installation manuals for, among other accessories, parking sensors.
Just to give you an idea of what you're facing.

The installation manuals can be found under GENERAL -> Accessory Installation Manuals. Select LC model and accessory etc. from there.

            Good luck!

                Cheers for the recommendations RanJ.

I am looking for front & rear sensor kit - apart from these three:

http://thecarkitcompany1-px.rtrk.com...g-sensors.html <-- any ideas what brand this is?
http://www.elite-electronics.com.au/...m#.UoWq9vmmh8E does anyone have any recommendations.
                http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AXIS-8-SE...4bb8e6f&_uhb=1

There are a few on ebay alot cheaper (from Aus sellers), but unless anyone has any first hand experience I would rather purchase and install a reputable product first time round?

Kevin, I'm going to do something I don't normally do and give a company a bad rap. I would strongly advise AGAINST using the carkit co for various reasons. The ones that would concern you would be that their installers in Perth are sub contractors and never took a great deal of pride in their work and had trouble with warranty work. Their sensors are a brand they import themselves but are of reasonable quality and their colour matching is well done... I just don't like the company or some of their sub contractors. If you fit them yourself and have an issue, I don't like your warranty chances.

The ones from Elite Electronics are a brand I use for unpainted sensors. Good brand, same as Parkmate just rebadged. I think you could get pricing.... I think I would charge less but not sure as I've never used them.

The three from eBay are THE worst of the worst unfortunately.
