LED Bar wiring fault

Hi Guys,
Have browsed through the forum but no one with this problem as far as I can see...
I have wired my new bar with a relay and switch, routing the wire for power from the high beam wire behind the globe as suggested by one of the Prado point posts. It worked fine when I tried it first, but then found later that the high beam now no longer works, the light bar doesnt work, and the high beam is always faintly on then comes on normally with high beam use. Help?

How did you wire it up? High on 120s is -ve switched. At least the 06 update on. Spell out what you wired to where and we will have a go at trouble shooting but is sounds to me like you have put +12V both sides of high beam when it is on with the lightbar.

I have hooked the light bar wires to the relay and then to the power from behind the high beam light (which I am told is the top wire on the plug) with the ground to the body, hope thats what the problem is...

From memory the 120s are negatively switched which means that +12V is always on the high beam lights. So you will need to check whether it is in fact positive or negative switched. If negative switched as I think it is you will need to use the negative from the high beam as the switch (terminal 86) and feed constant fused power to the relay terminal 85. The usual fused power supply to 30 and the feed to the lightbar from 87. Memory is hazy because it was 8 years ago that I wired up the 120. Probably a thread or three in this section have a look.

When I wired up my relay I soldered to the wire to the top wire towards the the outside/drivers side of the headlight as there are two wires on top and one underneath . Hard to see in photo cause it is wrapped in black tape but you can see what colour wires it isn't . When finding this wire I put a multimeter to earth and found what became switched to 12v when the beams were on .

Its not a great diagram but it should help you.

If you look at the back of the headlight plug the 2 outside leads are the ones you want to hook up to your relay.

Oh the 2 outside leads! I was told the common was the red/white and the high was the top red/green wire - maybe thats my problem, i have been led up the garden path... thanks mate will try it out.

yup so if you look at the front of the plug it should look like this:

so you want to 2 pins on the side.
