  • Rear/Reversing Lighting

I have always disliked the amount of rear lighting from my 07 GXL.
It's especially bad at night and the reverse camera doesn't handle it well.
Safety plus don't want to hit anything with the rear of the truck (again).

    So....
Rear light on a stalk vs other options.
I was thinking about a couple of the small LED light bars implanted into the rear bar, replacing the fake red lights.
?wise use of dead space / fake lights OR over complication?

Alternative ideas are always welcome also.
    Thanks

I'd check to see if it's a legal requirement to have them there before removal. They are only a reflector here but overseas they're a fog light.
Many of us have added rear lighting, probably half on a stalk behind the tyre and the other half on the back of the roof rack.

Reflectors are an ADR requirement on all vehicles. If your park lights are shot (or you are parked on verge without park lights on / <insert scenario here>), at least people will see your reflectors.

The commodore / falcon Altezza light kits do not have reflector built in, so they supply a 3m stick on reflector for compliance, not that people actually use them.

Have had good results from replacing the old candles with LED replacement globes.

Would recommend additional lights to be installed up high, and spread beam too. Low down in rear bar they don't light up much except for a small patch of intense light close up and fading very quickly with distance.

            Thanks Guys.
I'm not sure about other 120s, but I was following SWMBO while she was driving and found that the "reflectors" don't "reflect" much. Quite frankly, I'd like to turn them into true rear/fog/brake lights and have them do something active. (every other rear light on my beast does something active, Toyota should have to have that last 20cm of wire hooked up to lights, not reflectors)

Thanks foxclan, I will look into the LED globes.
Good point Early. That's exactly what I do want, good spread and distance.
