  • Alpine double DIN head unit

Has anyone upgraded their head unit with an Alpine one here? Do you need a dash kit or is it a straight fit?

Does the GPS signal work well?
Did you get the reverse camera
Did the steering wheel controls work?

    Thanks

I went for a Kenwood over an Alpine double DIN so not too sure about mounting issues. As long as you have a steering control wiring harness to attach the unit you should be able to retain your steering controls quite easily- Kenwood had one included with the unit and I'm pretty sure Alpine at least sells them separately - I would definitely check to see if the particular unit you're after has it included in the box.

Reverse cameras are fairly easy to install - depending where you want to install it, it's just a matter of running the wire and how much trim you feel like removing. Always good to have one to help lining up with the trailer etc.

Not exactly what you were after, but hope it's of some help.

Can you please post a pic of your Kenwood? Want to see how good the fit is. I was considering the Kenwood too.

Any issues? Every Kenwood I have had, I have had problems!

Here is the only decent photo of it that i've got. It fits real nice. I do have thin plastic cut outs either side though to tidy it up.

No dramas for me other than it can be quite slow (obviously a processing power issue) but the model i have 6033bt had the 50amp outlets which suited my application.

Thanks for that. Where did you get those side cut outs from? Are they just for the kenwood?

            Hi Turbo Piston,
Yes, I had the alpine unit unit installed early on. The GPS works excellently, just keep utd wrt maps.
            Reverse camera is excellent.
Steering wheels controls are not perfect though, unfortunately. The simple commands work well.
The roof mounted DVD keeps the kids (& us) happy.
            Cheers
