Has anyone explored the possibility of fitting an adjustable thermostat to the air con in a 120 Prado. At this time of year up here it's still too hot to run without the air con on but too cold without mixing some hot air with it. It seems ridiculous to me to use the energy to run the compressor flat out and then mix hot air with it to bring the temp down to where I want it. I have not looked into it yet to see how simple it would be but was wondering if this has already been looked at.

The prado's run a thermistor system that are generally controlled by an electronic module.
Unfortunately its not like the good old days where you can just put a new thermostat in and plug a couple of wires in and away you go.
And having said that, I get your logic behind doing it, but if you were able to do a manual setup its going to cause compressor clutch wear as it will be cycling a lot more rapidly than its supposed to.
Plus it would't regulate the temp as well as it does at the moment, as it always takes 10-20 secs or so for the a/c system to work its magic - so you would noticeably feel it coming on and off.
