I saw this idea elsewhere on Pradopoint but with no write up so I thought I would do the repair and document as I go, hope it helps someone as I think the cost of a new centre brake light is over $300. This repair cost me basically nothing and about an hours labour.
1. First remove the centre brake light by getting something thin like a paint scraper and push down from the top to release the 4 plastic tabs and working your way along. This takes a bit of juggling but eventually clips out.
2. Press brake peddle in and test for voltage at the plug, if voltage present then light is faulty.
3. Drill 3 x 20mm holes along bottom of red lense to enable access to inside lense as it is a sealed unit.
4. Cut existing wires and remove rubber grommet from lamp assembly.
5. Insert 300mm 12vdc LED strip light into assembly and poke wires out the cable hole.
