  • Radio re code

    Hello boys,
    Been doing some work on my 120 1kd , had battery off and now can't re code or delete radio code , had a look at the book on the radio followed instructions but still comes up with error # 4 now, got REC on screen followed instructions to when code come up and punch in new ones , no didgets come up just the three - - - come up when I continue I get error # , got six more chances before its Toyota ,

    My dash is still displaying ABS and handbrake lights on also , was going to book it in to my mechanic next week to try to sort out , if
    I can't get the radio sorted he can try that too but following instructions to the letter.
    Cheers boys.
    Alan.

    I was told to use the last 4 digits on the VIN by the dealer but mine didnt want a code when the time came for some reason...

      By REC, do you mean SEC?

      If you can't remember your code, try until it no longer asks for one at which time it has locked you out. Remove your stereo, take it to a Toyota dealer and they will have a yellow lunchbox looking thing that can reset the security. You might need to prove ownership of your vehicle and that the hole in the dash is the stereo you are holding in your hand.

        Hello boys,
        Phoned the dealer where the car came from told him my story , he asked me to quote my vin number so he could check for me he told me it was the last 3 didgets of my vin , ( I'm up to 8 try's now and looking at $65 at Toyota dealers after I get the radio out)

        Anyway the three didgets worked and all is good with the radio,
        Just got to sort my speedo and lights on on abs and handbrake.
        Alan.

          Just had the same experience, negative battery wire was disturbed while removing winch cable neg. "sec" shows on radio but mine was 5 digits.
          After minor panic as just recently bought second hand Prado, tried various code without success and forums mentioned last 3 digits of VIN but mine was 5 so did not apply.
          anyway
          Solution; yes the Toyota dealers have been most helpful over the phone;
          Last 5 digits of my VIN successfully unlocked the stereo. Yeh.
