Is it possible, I want to add another set of 170's or similar 100watts onto my existing harness that was made by my sparkies at work. Is it possible to piggy back the positives and negatives accordingly, using the existing 25a inline fuse and 30 relay, or do I need to do something extra. Plan on doing this tommorrow , any help greatly appreciated

Re: Piggy back Spotlights
OK ... the following is a bit of schoolboy science ... but I reckon it holds together ...
..... any electrical guru's out there ... feel free to correct it ..... my old science teacher used to
WATTS = AMPS x VOLTS or VOLTS = WATTS / AMPS or AMPS = WATTS / VOLTS
It is possible, providing the wiring is suitably rated for the current draw of 400 Watts rather than 200 ..... and if the fusing is appropriate.
Consider 2 x 100 Watt spotties ..... pulling 200 Watts over that circuit with an educated guesstimate voltage of 13.8 Volts ... would give an Amps reading of 14.49 Amps ..... so a 15 Amp fuse would be needed.
Now consider the same circuit with 4 x 100 Watt spotties ....... pulling 400 Watts over that same circuit, with the same voltage of 13.8 ... gives an Amps reading of 28.98 AMps .... requiring a 30 Amp fuse and some decent wiring to avoid meltdown.
My personal preference is to wire them up in pairs.
If you have a look at the pics of my rig I'm running 6 spotties - the pair of Roo Lites on the bar and 4 x Hellas on the roof rack.
..... and I've got them wired up in pairs. Each pair is wired up to its own switch, relay, power feed etc ....
Cheers

Re: Piggy back Spotlights
Golly,
Chippy is spot on with 400W of lights the 25A fuse would blow.
Even if your existing installation had the thermal capability (say 40Amp fuse with appropriate wiring) by loading up the circuit, the increased voltage drop will decrease the performance of all the lights.
Given you have probably laid out a tidy sum for the lights in the first place pay a little more and install a second circuit. This will given you both better performance and better reliability as the relay(s) will be switching lower current.
Note you only need to duplicate the relay and power circuit. The control circuit can be "piggy backed" - unless off course you want the ability to control the new set of light independent of the original set.

Re: Piggy back Spotlights
Of course if you were to convert the exisiting spots and the new ones to HIDs then current draw would be significantly less hence power consumption would also be less and you would probably be able to get away with doubling up on the existing harness.Roll on the 2010 Pradopoint GTG

Re: Piggy back Spotlights
cheers guys, two circuits it will be then, safer for sure haha...
Looking forward to the next few days tinkering in the garage setting her up
