If any of you are or know avid photographers, get them to test the fatboys over standard with a light meter to really see the increase.

Did that with my top end Nikon with built in light meter, it didnt get too excited, thats why I was a bit undecided yet on the output claims of them.

Certainly driving it around the city I am noticing no difference.

I have the night off tonight so might nick up the freeway to some dark areas with a mate to have a looksee.
Might even try unplugging the Passengers side (easy) and then take some more pics with the fatboy on the drivers side and the original globe back in there.
Will only do one as too bloody hard to change the passengers side again!
(This is all probnouncing that i get time of course!)

Have had a chance to do a bit of night driving now, and there is a difference with the Fatboys.
I would rate it at maybe a 5-10% increase at most.
I received a few sets of HID's the other day to play around with as well.
Some H3's for my Other 4wd's spots (IPF 800's) some H1's for the rally 4000 compacts on the rally car and some H4 Bi-xenon Hi/lo beam for one of them just not sure yet which one. Might try the prado

Powered just the bare HID bulb up  *OMFG* it was so bright even with sunnies on and no reflector you couldnt look at it !
Now if these dont do at least a 40% difference to the headlights I'll be upset!

I'm surprised at the small difference you noticed with the Fatboys.

I would have rated the difference much higher - but then again, as my wife so often says, what do I know?

Be interested to hear how you go with the HID's

Russian site, wonder if they would pass Aust ADR's? I heard rumours that the Aust Prado's would be coming out with HID in the near future, probably these pics may be of an OS model with them already.

The Bi-Xenon are the ones I am trying, these on this russki site look like Bi-Xenon Projectors.

I have already fitted the HID Plasma Xenons into my other 4wd spotlights ! OMG!
They have issues around the city and on some country roads, you actually have to dip them as they reflect so badly off some signs you get blinded by the reflection.
Original spots are an IPF800 and the original bulbs were 130 watts each, the HID are 35 watts and I would say they are EASILY 300% brighter on the road, also a 6000k very nice natural daylight colour.
You dont want to go anything higher than 6000k as it becomes Blue and you lose vision then, any lower than 4000K becomes yellow.

Will hopefully get to play with the HID in the Prado this weekend, may have issues with the clearance on the Battery though, have to wait and see.

I have now split this post from this point as HID testing progressed from here.
Please see http://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?t=972 for HID info.

Now a set of these would be the ultimate solution. I wonder where they are available?

I've seen some guys on a Subaru web site retro fit new projector units in existing OEM free form assemblies like those on the 120. Big and complicated job, expensive parts, but the ultimate HID solution. See here for example.

                      Cheers,

                      Drew.

                        Hi Drew,

One place they are available is ebay. Check out http://tinyurl.com/ysb33s

I haven't got any, but I'm thinking about getting them. I too would love to hear from anyone who has used them.

Just found that you had already found the lights on ebay too in the HID spotlights thread

Sorry Jacto, I confused myself between the two threads. See http://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?p=10299#10299

I'm getting the seller to send me some better photos of his kits so I can see how far they are going to hang out the back of the headlamp housings.
