Re: How long did you get from the OEM battery?

Mine was starting to take a little long to kick over in the mornings and finally it decided not to kick over at all. Replaced it with an RACQ battery and comes with 2 year warranty. The good thing is that if I have an issue with the battery in that time, they will come to me wherever I am (rather than me taking the battery to where I bought it from).

Bit the bullet today and replaced o.e m. battery. 4 years is not bad. Replaced it with a AMARON NS70L.Looked around settled on this one.I am already running 2 marathon 90 ah in the cabin i dont require much more power.Just went for cca.Just could not risk another trip up the beach in a couple of weeks with o.m.e as crank.Older and a bit wiser these days.Anything that gets in the way of fishing and a cold one will not do.

November 2006 build with 121,000km and still going strong.

Do you think a Prados that get used more often get a longer lasting battery?

              Hi Guys,
I am new to the forum, reading your comments, Supercharge batteries are calcium calcuim, and require 15.4 volts to charge correctly, they are great in as you can flatten them and then recharge them from 5 volts. in the vehicle they dont get cherged greatly. I dont use or recomend calciums in cars that get used.
also what duel battery isolaters are being used, there are some brands that isolate batteries at 12.7volts or lower! I know this will premeturely reduce the life of most starting batteries.

Hi Gatty, Just read your thread. This will probably go against the main stream but iam using a 200amp ELECTRO dual battery isolator, witch switches on at 13.4v and switches off at 12.6 ,also has 15 sec delay +spike protection.I am charging 1 calcium crank. + 2- 90 ah marathon agm,s in the cabin.I have run the system in 2 cars now without a problem.I am running fridge in car as well as my camper lighting ect.I did the install myself after talking to a fridge repair guy who steered me away from electronic systems. After 3 years of trouble free use he knows his stuff.B.T.W first time now with calcium but the AGM,S are about 5 years old.Emailed the guy,s at ELECTRO PARTS AUS.after reading and being told mine was to simple it can,t be any good you need this and that, the tec guy rang me back talked for ages batteries and charging ,different systems ect . Came away happy with my system Only one tip he gave me was to charge the AGM,S every 2-3 months or before camping trip with battery charger off 240v just to top them up My 2cents CHEERS TINKERA..

That's ironic, I just had a look at the Supercharge Allrounder and thought of replacing both my cranking and aux. They look good and the twin post is a great idea.

Can anyone confirm that the Supercharge Allrounders are calcium batteries?

I've just picked one up with a Redarc DC-DC charger and I just wanted to confirm this before I set up the battery config wire.

The battery does not have calcium mentioned anywhere on the outside and the specification pages at http://www.supercharge.com.au/products_ ... ounder.php and http://www.supercharge.com.au/product_detail.php?seq=76 do not mention calcium.

                    Cheers OGG

Confirmed - Supercharge Allrounder's are not calcium. I have 2 of them (main and aux) - for cranking/winching and deep cycle and work a treat.

My OEM Panasonic on my petrol 4/2004 Prado just died after 6 years and 178,000 Kms, hence my visit to the forum to check on what others have replaced the OEM with.

Just replaced mine today, 5/2006 with 120,000kms.

It has had a easy last 18months/2 years with the second battery helping it out but finally started giving me trouble late september while in coral bay, runnung the 60lt engel 24hrs and a stereo all afternoon.

                          Pretty happy with that!

Re: How long did you get from the OEM battery?

                            Hi all
We had our first battery failure from the original Prado battery back in July when fueling up in Coen F.N.Qld.
Left the ignition on briefly to note the klms and litres in the trip log, went to fire her up and got the dreaded clicking from the starter.
Luckily some friendly travelers had jumper leads and we where on our way. Exchanged the stuffed one in Cairns for a Century. These are still made in Australia.
The young bloke from Battery World was very helpful and took an interest in our trip to the tip, being a four wheel driver himself.
2003 -2010, will be happy if the new battery last this long.
                            Cheers Troy

                              Strange happening with OEM battery?

Strange thing happened on the weekend, I was just doing the weekly check under the bonnet on Saturday afternoon, to refill the washer bottle, check the fluids, etc and I noticed that one of the filler plugs on the battery was missing and the level in that cell was down a bit. I don't have a hygrometer but my voltmeter was registering 12.5V.

I had to drop my son off at work, so I taped it closed with 100MPH tape and went down to my local Repco store near where he works where the guys there found a filler plug (different shape, colour, etc) which sort of fit, at least it could screw in and stay in place, and I then took the car home and on Sunday ran the battery up on the CTEK all afternoon. After about an hour off the charger it was reading 12.79V which is close to full.

I drove to work today and checked the car when I got back to it in the carpark this afternoon (so idle for about 9 hours and it was reading 12.49V again, drove home and after sitting for 90 minutes it is now reading 12.65V. So going back and forth between 80% and 90%.

Is there anything else I need to do to test this battery?

The thing is that we are planning a trip in late April, for safety I should probably replace this battery any suggestions?

I just checked online catalogues at battery world and while they recommended the GS Yuasa N70ZZ4WD or Century N70ZZ4WD the spec sheet for both of these shows the poles around the other way. That is Positive closest to the guard. I assume that these come in the other orientation.

                              Cheers
                              OGG

Edit: Checked this morning after the car had been sitting overnight, 12.33V, looks like this battery is on the way out.

                                G'day,

After 4 years mine was on its way out after running a fridge for an easter weekend. Bought a new one from an auot shop and confirmed if it suited a prado as it was on special, they said yes so took it home, took the old one out and went to put the new one in... poles were reversed on the new one. ops: ops: ops:

So back in goes the old one and a quick phonecall to RACQ and they were out that afternoon. replaced the old one with a better sized option and took the old one away all for under $200. Also got my money back for the other battery from the auto shop.

Pretty amazing that people are getting like 6 years out of their batteries.

                                Cheers,
