Re: Message for ARB Battery Tray Owners

Hi, just reading this thread from a while ago, but some more info which may be useful.
I was checking out someone else's ARB second battery fitting a while ago, ( a D4-D) and noticed that because ARB had moved the fuel filter to the left a fair amount , that a fuel hose was now rubbing on the engine block. This had caused it to wear through to the point there was almost a hole in the hose. It might be worth anyone with this setup to also check their fuel hoses, and if it is rubbing shorten it or tie it back.
    Cheers, Wayne

      Yes I noticed this also

That said I have a shiny new prototype battery clamp from ARB to test fit

ARB prototype battery clamp. You can see now how the bolts sit flush with the top of the battery. Much better idea.

Re: Message for ARB Battery Tray Owners

Interestingly my local ARB store just quoted me on a dual battery install using the space behind the driver side headlight (some would say the space purpose designed for this purpose?). The store manager advised he has seen very few Prado inner guard cracking issues & in his view any such instances were likely due to EXTREME vehicle use. Must admit, this thought has been kicking around in my mind for a while & his words (paraphrased): "It would be a bit of a sad indictment on Toyota engineering if the space ready made for a battery install couldn't handle a 30 kg battery...".

One wonders about 60 kg combined weight of battery slung off the passenger side!

They also quoted using only a Piranha battery tray. All in all it would be interesting to know:
A: how many guard cracking issues coincide with a drivers side battery install?
B: What sort of tray / mount was used?
C: An honest report of the degree of use the vehicle has been subjected to.

There is an existing thread on the cracking issues here:

Re: Message for ARB Battery Tray Owners

I had exatly the same issue wiht my dual battery tray being fitted on the same side and mine was fitted by an ARB dealer, I had all this added to the specs list when I bough my new car. When I picked up the car I noticed that the boonet was sqew. It was the bolt thread pushing on the bonnet strut . I also had an ARB compressor fitted under the bonnet and that is placed on the drives side beding the headlight like the other posts suggest. This was a totally professional insallation done by the ARB dealer. I took the car back and they basically shaved the thread down.

I can post pics if you like

Re: Message for ARB Battery Tray Owners

Tray installed exactly as per ARB instruction. The tray has no way to stop "pendulum" effect ripping out the side of the inner guard .
Looks to me that the bracket that fits between the fire wall and the tray is missing. This bracket attaches behind the solenoid on the tray to the two bolts shown in the picture on the fire wall, One of these bolts has an earth wire connected with a crimp fitting from the twin flex coming out of the grommet.
Ya always get some left over parts on the big jobs guess ya will find a use for that plate that was in the box after the install.

Re: Message for ARB Battery Tray Owners

Before everyone starts hanging shit on ARB. Let’s get the facts first. Instead of bagging the crap out of ARB at every opportunity, why not contact them first and see if they can help.

Was this tray installed by ARB or was it installed by a DIY or backyarder? If installed by ARB then I’m sure they will fix it. If it was installed by a backyarder or DIY then I’d be posting an apology to ARB quick smart before they take legal action.

I have bought tens of thousands of dollars worth of ARB products in the last 26 years. In that time, I had 1 item I was not happy with, it didn’t fail nor was it faulty, I just wasn’t happy with its function. I contacted ARB Head office and they replaced the item to suit my needs, no questions asked. ARB had even followed up with a call a few months later to see if I was still happy with their gear. You can’t ask for more than that.

Re: Message for ARB Battery Tray Owners

My ARB supplied Outback Accessories aux battery box went in with no hassles at all. The only spare bits are for use when fitting into the petrol V6 model.

Mind you, mine sits on the front right side with no need to relocate all the other parts.

ARB have been a round for long time now and you would expect them to get it right. They certainly are not the cheapest but I've always found them ready to negotiate and happy to provide any advice if needed.

I had a little whinge when they forgot to refit the front bash plate after fitting my ARB bar but that was readily sorted.
