Smart Alternator on late model 120 series, After talking to staff of 4 x 4 accessories oulets at the recent Melbourne 4 x 4 show, I was told that there maybe a problem with fitting a duel battery system to a late 07 to 09 120 series as they are fitted with a "Smart Alternator" that sensors the voltage of the starting battery and once charged lowers the out put from the alternator stopping the second battery from completely charging. They did quote the voltage output but I'm not sure I recall these figures correctly, but I think it was when charging 14.4 volts and when the starting battery is charged it drops to 13.2 volts not allowing the second battery to fully charge. So the question is has anyone else experienced this? I there a fix? Thanks for your input.

Re: Smart Alternator on late model 120 series
This has been known for a while and covered before Carter. The fix on the D4D is to fit a Booster for the Auxilary Battery.
One that I and many others have had success with is the Ranox unit.
I'm running my 100ah AGM Battery with this unit, as it muti-stage charges it back to full capacity in a couple of hours.
