The good thing about the above mod is that the fridge will now also stay on in the back of the Prado (even if the car is switched off) as long as the camper's Anderson is connected because they are connected togher at the isolator. I guess what I'm saying is don't fiddle with the camper 7 way connector as it is only intended to power lights. The 2nd point is play it safe when powering your fridge by going for thicker wires. I never had a flat battery problem in either the camper or the Prado.

Unless they have changed there wiring, Goldstream will already have wired a thicker wire into the van trailer plug for the "hotwire". Your anderson wiring will only run to your van battery for charging.

If you want to run your fridge via the anderson plug you will need to do some rewiring.

OK so i have decided on my camper if you can call it that a Goldstream storm and i am figuring out my anderson plug wiring options now my question is as follows

As i already have a duel battery management system i was planning on just running the anderson plug wiring straight off the aux battery.

Now i understand by doing it this way the camper battery and the aux battery will be drained if i leave the anderson plug connected when stopped however does current flow back upstream as my camper has a built in Cteck changer for when 240 is avaliable if i leave the anderson plug connected will the camper and the aux battery be charged with wiring as above or does the current only flow 1 way

Hope this can be understood as i dont know much about wiring

Hey Chester,

IF you connected your campers battery to your car's, second battery ( In parrellel) via an anderson plug they techincally become 1 12volt battery with a larger Ah rating
So if your Car's Second battery was 75% and your Camper was 50% charged the battery with the higher voltage will start sending voltage to the other battery until they are even! This process can take some time to reach equal depending on battery sizes.


Your cars starter battery (depending on Dual Battery management system) should be Isolated from the other batteries below a certain voltage, and only when the voltage reaches a certain amount, (Usually when charging) then the starting will connect the remaining batteries and charge them also.

Using the C-tek to charge from the camper back through should work to the cars second battery, but may need tweaking to get through the isolator to the starter!
I think REDARC have a few tweaks to make this work ( Turn on the car to open the solenoid, stop the car and connect charger before the soleniod clicks!!)


If you are unsure, connect up the charger and check each battery with a multimeter, if they are charging the voltage should be above 13.6v !
