Re: iPod connection for 6 stacker

Looks like this new interface could be the new model we've all been waiting on.
I've just sent them an email asking if its compatible with an 08 model 120series w/6 stacker CD.
Like everyone else,...I hope they respond soon.

    cheers

Re: iPod connection for 6 stacker

      G'day All,

Been following this thread closely every since Travelman posted it.

I contacted Caripodcables on Friday after I saw the latest pics and model mentioned by bevmone.
It's on their website as Toyota iPod / iPhone Interface 6 stacker compatible interface for $89.95.
They responded quickly with their final answer today after a few questions back and forth.
Yes, this interface will suit the 120series Prado that has the Factory 6 Stacker CD, as long at the model has no SatNav.
So it all looks sweet at the moment. All I need to do now is order one.

Hope this info helps clarrify the compatibilty for all interested.

      Cheers
      Stewy

Mine's ordered - now comes the hard part of pulling apart the dash...

Re: iPod connection for 6 stacker

          Hi Novice
Good luck pulling your dash apart. I found the hardest part was actually having the courage to start, but there's an article somewhere in the forum that tells you how to do it. Basically, use a small paint scraper with a handkerchief or tea towel around the end and start by prying up and removing the silver strip near the handbrake, and work your way around the trim anticlockwise from there. You'll have to move the stereo forward by undoing the nuts that hold it in place to get the plug into the back, but basically it's all comon sense. The instructions are in Engrish but give reasonable general, generic instructions.
Let me just give one definite piece of advice - make sure the stereo is TURNED OFF and the key is turned off (and probably pulled out too) before you start routing the cable down to wherever you're going to locate the black box. Otherwise you may earth the live plug against some metal part behind the dash and burn out a component or two in the stereo. Don't ask me how I know.
I'm sure you'll find the iPod connection a great asset.

            Thanks Travelman
Before i start, is there definitely no chance i can get to the rear of the head unit from under the dash or from the glove box (if i pull that out?). It wouldn't be the first time i'd fumbled around in the dark not knowing what i'm doing...

Although this is the 120 series section I thought I'd add that they apparently also work for the 90 series that has a factory stacker. I havnt ordered one yet but will be shortly.

You have to attack it from the front as the bolts holding the stereo in place are at the front of it. Don't be put off. It's a fairly straight forward job. You'll be surprised how quickly you'll be finished.

                  G'day all,

I received the unit yesterday. And looked inside the box to what was what. There was quite a few cables and hoped that I actually had the connections.
I went to install it tonight and presto,.... the stereo had the right connections - and best of all it works.
You can see my install in the build ups section under Stewy's 08 D4D

                  cheers

                    Hi Stewy

Thanks for the pics in your build-up. Just folllowed your instructions and the unit is installed. You and Travelman were right - its a pretty simple operation.

The ipod is playing through the unit and i can move back and forward tracks etc. Does your screen actually have information (i.e track number, length of song) that relates to the info on the ipod? mine seems to be showing the info related to the songs on the CD in the stacker - even though track selction will work????

                    Pete

                      G'day Novice,

You are correct with the display. I need to spend a bit more time flicking through the manual, but I have noticed that the display does show a CD number, this is nothing to work off though. The Track number goes up to 99 from what I can tell and resets itself back to 1 when you switch back and forth to the IPod mode after you turn the ignition off/on.
The track numbers on the display of the stereo don't relate to the track numbers on the IPod.
The track time on mine seems o.k. though.
All my needs were was to switch to IPod mode on the stereo, charge the IPod whilst playing , and switch tracks on the IPod using the stereo. These things also work from Steering wheel controls aswell.
I'd say some of the other display properties would depend on Factory Stereo unit, as the unit in the Prado has a fairly ordinary display. Perhaps you would see more accurate info using a different Toyota Factory unit?

                      cheers

                        Thanks Stewy

The main thing for me was a direct feed into the sound system rather than through the fm transmitter. Whilst the transmitter i have charges the ipod, the sound quality isn't so good and i'd be constantly changing frequencies when travelling longer distances.

I'm pretty happy with the cable - just wasn't sure if i was missing out on something or if i'd somehow connected it incorrectly.

                            Hey guys,
Did any of you have an aftermarket bluetooth system fitted also?
My 04 GXL also has the 6 stacker in dash cd player, and I have an aftermarket sony bluetooth system in the car.
Would the bluetooth system be plugged into the AUX position where I should plug the ipod cable?
Just after an idea before I remove the stereo, or buy the cable.
Dont want to be wasting my time & money on it.
2004 Prado GXL. v6 auto, ARB deluxe bar, exhaust, 2" EFS lift kit, Outback Acc rear bar,
rallye 2000 spots, roof mount dvd, dig_options stereo, toyota roof bars.
                            More to come!

I'm in exactly the same position! I too have just bought an 03 Grande, and since the GPS update costs around $300 and then the ipod connection thing is almost another $100, I have decided to just go for a whole new unit which also has DVD - about $550 off ebay with dig_options. My main concern is that I cannot for the life of me get the damn thing out! I have tried taking the silver bit round the edge off, but I'm too scared to pull too hard incase it breaks/ bursts.

Do you really just pry it off, it won't snap or anything?
