Bought some air horns today

Need to wire up some air horns and want to put in a switch so I can choose between OE "hello" horn or the new triple "get out of the f$%ing way" horn.
I am having trouble finding a wire for the old horn anywhere under the steering column or dash. Consequently I might have to run wires from the old horn itself back along the engine bay, through the firewall to my switch.
Any clues.
Cheers - Byrnsie

Hi Burnsie,
Be very carefull mucking around with the horn wiring or the horn button/airbag assembly in way of the steering wheel, as there are strict instructions to follow to remove the horn button/airbag assy. even just to trace wires.
I wired my relay directly to the low note horn using a spade terminal it is just the mater of opening the bonnet and reconnect the one horn for the two Tojo horns.
Using this method of wiring, when you touch the horn button for a pedestrian you just get a gentle beep as the relay delay and air compressor run up times gives you this slight delay. If the pedestrian eyeballs you and rudely keeps on walking against the red light then you just keep you hand on the horn for about 0.75 sec and the pedestrian Sh##ts themselves.07 Upgrade GXL D4D, Manual, Dune,Sov Bar, BFG's, SG11, Redark dual Batts, Extensive Aux wiring, Stebel, LED stop tails, IPF HID's (my mod), 240V Inv, ARB Comp, GME UHF,TPMS, Safari snorkel, GPS,Hilux washers, 40l Engel in 30% pas pos, homemade A/C cond protection plate, polyairs.

Burnsie, I'd be keen to see the wiring diagram for the switch. It's pretty much exactly what I would be after as I am certain that when my 3 year old is waving goodbye saying 'Daddy beep' he would be traumatised by 139db of air horn.
Let us know how you go and some pics would be useful.Neil - Porsche 911 (997.2 2009) Carrera S

I fitted air horns smack in the middle, in front of the radiator. Mine are similar to the pic at the top of the thread; two trumpets and compressor all in one convenient unit. The trumpets squirt noise into the back of a TJM-style steel bumper. The claimed 139dB or more is probably at four-inch range, but they're still stupidly loud. In a sort of freight-train way. I'm well chuffed.
The compressor inlet includes a fitting where a plastic hose (not supplied) can be added so that the air intake can be moved to where it won't ingest muddy water.
As for the electrics, the power to a relay comes off the original horn spade connector. The compressor draws nearly 10 amps. In the unlikely event that I have to disable the air horns and stick with the original feeble Toyota offerings (113dB according to what's written on them), I'll simply pull the fuse on the power supply between battery and relay.]}:-{>

Well Grumpy,
Sometimes we must be inovative and supply our own bit of plastic hose :!: I do like that feature in the horns where you can have the compressor air intake above expected WL's07 Upgrade GXL D4D, Manual, Dune,Sov Bar, BFG's, SG11, Redark dual Batts, Extensive Aux wiring, Stebel, LED stop tails, IPF HID's (my mod), 240V Inv, ARB Comp, GME UHF,TPMS, Safari snorkel, GPS,Hilux washers, 40l Engel in 30% pas pos, homemade A/C cond protection plate, polyairs.

Curiosity got the better of me today. I wanted to hear what these horns sounded like. I went to the Stebel website and found that you can select the horn you want under the products page and then play the horn sound. Not a bad site! It's a good sounding horn too.
The website is:

To try out the compact air horn, go to Products, select the Car icon and then the Nautilus Compact Series button above it. You can then select the horn icon which plays the soundAndrewH

I too have a new horn....
Ended up with a slightly different Stebel
"STEBEL NAUTILUS COMPACT TRUCK HORN 12 Volt 300Hz 134Db"
It has a lower frequency sound, more like your Mack Truck..
Got it for $75 (pick up) @

I like the idea of getting some of the 'nautical' horns. Just to confuse those idiots who drive around with their fog lights on all the time because can't help themselves :lol:My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic
