  • Halogen or Led Globes ???

Im sure this has been discussed before but haven't had anything pop up which properly answers my questions fully, just bits n pieces of info everywhere

Headlight globe (halogen original) H4 has gone so am tossing up which way to go. Have read some leds produce too much heat, may cook the inside of the headlamp assembly ???

Was using Phillips upgraded halogen globes in a Vitara previously and they kept blowing constantly so wont be buying anything Phillips.
Supercrap Auto have some Narva globes, and wondering if any of those are worth the 70-100$ tag, anyone used them ??? Or do i go the Fleabay route

So for those of you that have had both , what are your recommendations and if you have any globes you think are good, a direct link would be good if u can be bothered. And id like a simple install, no adjusting cutting or whatever. BTW running standard suspension atm also

    cheers folks

I went to LED's in the 90 as they have pretty poor lights. Gave excellent low beam, high beam is actually worse but I have driving lights so it's all good.
No problem with heat, only thing is they don;t give feedback signal to the dash high beam light or a trigger for the driving lights so you need to do some research. I tried various CANBUS gadgets to no avail, eventually wired them to work myself.
You have to check you're not blinding oncoming traffic but there's a heap of adjustment to fix that.

In my personal opinion from many years of pursuing the 'great white light', i would recommend against the use of LED bulbs for the main headlights.

For main headlights, I would recommend go down the route of getting some good quality HIDs, that have light temperature at around 5000K. Anything higher than 5000K, even 5500, as main headlights, you'll start to lose a little bit of vision. I can't recommend a good HID brand at the moment cos I bought a pair years ago and they stop making those bulbs (I think they were called "VIKOM Bulbs" and ballasts). Fleabay would be great place to start.

off-road driving lights (spotties and bars) with LEDs are significantly better. They have extremely high output and power therefore they perform a lot better, compared to single bulbs using as main headlights.

I paid $200 for a pair of JWSpeaker H1 LED bulbs for my sedan recently cos the HIDs that I bought 5 years ago finally failed, the result is quite disappointing. Cosmetically, the LEDs look very nice, but output was quite poor compared to the HIDs that I bought with about the same amount of money (if not less). (link to the bulb: http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Pro...v-6000K/523563 ).

Again, with HIDs, you'll then have to worry about the cut-off to make sure they won't blind oncoming traffic etc.

I also used to buy a cheap set of HIDs for the wife's Mazda 3 from the bay and they seemed to last for quite a long time as well (at lest 3-4 years). However there is a difference in terms of light output for different HID and unfortunately I wish I could recommend you a brand/type .

HID's are OK for low beam but not good for high as they take quite a while to get up to temperature.
If your car cuts low when it switches to high you'll have a dead time until she gets cooking and that's frightening. If the system keeps low on with high it's not such a problem.
My R32 GTR had woeful headlights so I fitted HID's to low beam only and left the halogens for high beam. As it used H1's these options were simple, but if the car only has H4's you're stuck.
Of course another great thing with HID or LED is the huge reduction in power consumption.
Fitting massive wattage halogen bulbs is overloading your factory wiring. The Nissan stuff would melt the headlight wires AND the dip switch contacts when blokes fitted 100W halogens.
The only negative I've found with HID or LED is the brilliant reflection from road signage.
I don't believe that 6000k is "white" light as commonly advertised. I'd go no hotter than 4500K or the light appears too blue.

If you go for LED check that the heatsink can unscrew or you'll have to cut the dust seal to install the light.
That defeats the purpose of the dust seal.
(The heatsink has much larger diameter than the designed hole in the rubber dust seal)
