Re: LED'ing the prado and wiring the Rear Fog Lights

You Blingin Biatch Golly!!  At the moment I'm thinking of putting the side marker LED's on a separate switch, maybe with the use of a relay or something like that. At the moment they come on with the park lights and I've been getting all sorts of comments from people at the lights and passers by. Some good... some not so good. Man.... what's with some people... :?

Re: LED'ing the prado and wiring the Rear Fog Lights

I changed over the interior light for a 4 LED module to replace the existing feston from JayCar about 12 months ago. Was pretty unimpressed with the lightoutput other than it being considerably whiter but not brighter. I seem to recall paying $14.95. Just recently I thought I need to do something about this and the rear cargo light so I went to a place in Adelaide along Port Road near the Entertainment Centre called Car toys. Picked up a couple of "Zoom " LED globe series which are a 6 module white LED festoon light 10x31. I believe these are rated at 6W and the module number is Z-2576W. I'm pretty happy with these in comparison to the standard feston light and the JayCar rubbish. These where only $9.95. I think they have others as well so will look at changing over the vanity lights too.

I like the idea of less power being sucked by the interior cabin lights, especailly when in remote areas as tthe last thing I want is a flat crank battery. That would really ruin your day.

Re: LED'ing the prado and wiring the Rear Fog Lights

Well it finally happened. when i did this LED install i was in a bit of a rush and the screws behind the lights were pushing the plastic surround of the light assembly away from the bar like this (top of picture)

on review of my calander and the date of my post below it appears that my "i'll get back to that" has taken roughly 20 months... but it was finaly time. plus i found some new stuff on ebay!

given the takeoff of the strip led lights on the front of most newer cars these days, i was looking to try replicate. Current setup looks like this

          pulled the cover off

there are a few questions above about what colour wire connects to what?, see below for mapping, green to yellow for the indicator and red to brown for the park light.

these were the replacements. the 12cm strips are white, the 6cm strips are amber.

cleaned up the wires, took the dirt off the original ARB lights and stuck these on the front (see how it holds, if they don't fall off i'll report back in another 20 months)

and then put it all back together. here's the old LED's and the new strip light compared.

          all done.

and a daylight shot this morning (i intentionally sped up the shutter so it didn't just give me a white blur...

i have since ordered the 12cm strip of amber and a third white one for each side so it fills that gap completely.
