Factory GXL head unit update

We recently bought a 2005 GXL & the reverse camera has stopped working, navigation says it needs updating & isn’t functioning correctly as a result & other features of the head unit are doing their own thing at times. Just wondering if this update is something anyone can do or if we need to take it to Toyota. I couldn’t find much info in the service manual or online. Or are we better off replacing the whole unit? The Mrs likes the TV function which so if it’s an easy fix I’d rather keep this unit.

I didn't think the 2005 GXL has a factory reverse camera. The reverse camera option came in late 06 or early 07 I thought when the final 120 midlife update came (Steering wheel controls, safety systems upgrades etc etc)
I have an 2005 Grande and I had to install my own reverse camera - I used an aftermarket unit that was designed for the later Prados. Also the factory Nav system (with 6 disc changer) was very outdated so that quickly got changed out with a modern Alpine Halo9 sytem with Carplay and Android auto. I certainly didn't think there was ever a TV function either so I have a feeling you might have an old aftermarket unit installed.

Could you take a pic of your head-unit possibly?

It’s definitely a Toyota head unit. Toyota logo comes up when you turn it on. I will take pics later today. Reverse camera is definitely factory too.

Hi guys Im new to the forum, im having an issue with my A/C after I changed to a android headunit, I checked every part of the ac and It works fine when I connect the compressor to 12V power supply, the problem is the compressor its not engaging when I turn the a/c on, I tried changing it back to the oem controls but it didnt work either, everything else works fine even when I turn the temperature to high it heats up but when I put it low It doesnt cool anything, maybe you could help me.

I've got a 2008 GXL purchased new & it never had any factory reverse camera. I think they didn't come standard until the 150 Series. So you may have a retro fit from a later model (or a Japanese model with the TV option) since the head unit is a simple double DIN, so any later model Toyota head unit which included reverse camera, etc. may fit.
