Mine is a heavy duty one but not waterproof , the water proof loom was extra . Its only the relay connections that can really get water damaged anyway and a blob of silicon will sort that

I just brought a pair today from arb nundah for 395. They also threw in a set of clear covers and a set of anti theft nuts. All i have to do is install them.

        Danger, Danger Will Robinson

I have recently installed a) 2 IPF XS900 "Spot lights" to my car with TOTALLY DISAPPOINTING results (even a set of Narvas would have been a 500% improvement!), b) 2 IPF "spread beams" which greatly improved my belief in IPF lights, and c) mounted 1 "spread beam" and 1 "spot light" (which confirmed my DISAPPOINTMENT in IPF Spotlights.

The problem may be a "batch" problem but the "spot lights" had a VERY DISAPPOINTING pattern. The pattern had a small "hot spot" in the centre with a fairly dim halo around it and a "finger" of shadow up the centre of the road leading to the "hot spot".

I initially changed these lenses for the "spread beam" lenses which were EXCELLENT! though a little disappointing for their "reach" (naturally).

So I bought a single "spot light" lens and installed it (thinking that it may have been misaligned by me originally), but with the same DISAPPOINTING pattern resulting in the DIMINISHMENT of the total light output of the 2 "spread beams" (exit 130W of "spread beam" overlaying the single "spread beam") and no noticeable improvement in the "reach" of the lights.

I am now in discussion with ARB as to where I go from here. Note: I had excellent response from ARB on my first contact.

I expect that I will go back to my Hella's or my Bosch's with which I have had satisfactory performance in the past. I may even try Cibie Super Oscars which have had an excellent reputation for many years.

As I have said, the IPF "spread beams" leave nothing to be desired except "reach" (which is to be expected). But my experience of the "spot lights" is TOTALLY DISAPPOINTING!

Can anyone else comment on their experience of the "spot lights"?

Hi Steve and welcome, I have no experience with the 900s but did have a set of 800s which I found to be great lights, when I was buying mine the dealer siad in his experience the 900 spot beam was too narrow and to try the 800s for a wider spread of light.

I now have Hella 4000 in pencil beam and have found them to have excellent spread and distance, though you do still get a hot spot if light.

Have also heard the light force are good.

          Have you done a search?

          This might helphttp://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?t=82

            Hi Chuck

Can you describe what the Hella 4000 spot and spread beam combination are like?

              Hi Chuck

Sorry, I didn't realise that you only have experience with the spoy light versions of the Hella 4000's.

                Hi Chuck

I have decided to create a new thread with this posting. Thanks for your help (the link did not supply any additional information).

I realise that cross posting is a "no no" but I thought a new thread might be required for this topic of mine.

                Again, thanks for your help.

                  Re: IPF 900xs Spotties

I've just discovered that my left IPF XS sports 'spread' spottie has a cracked casing.  At first, I thought the bolt had come loose and just needed tightening, but no:

Will see Toyota on Monday to see what they say. Hopefully its a warranty job.

I've had this brand of spotties on previous cars with no problems like this before.

                    Re: IPF 900xs Spotties

i have 3 of them on my 120. two spreads, one spot. the one of each combo wasn't up to my standards, but pretty good. i angle the spreads out for a wider peripheral.

very strong lights. don't move or shake around. easy to adjust. clear covers don't hinder.

got the pair as a combo from ARB. the third from ebay as a single. $450 for the kit with loom, but i ditched the mouse switch for the factory look alike option. the third was $120 no loom, posted.

                      Re: IPF 900xs Spotties

I have this same combo, but with a 55W 6000K HID upgrade in each light.

I initially had two spots and found them ok, and I mean......just ok.
I then converted them to HID and found the light output to be awesome, which was fine for the long highways, but after very very nearly collecting two buff and two donkeys one night, that were just on the shoulder, and you couldn't see them until about 15M away, I decided to get a spread beam.

After seeing a spread in HID, I was sold. So I changed the other spot to spread. This lit up the sides fantastically, but was lacking a little in penetration (which is to be expected really) so on went the spot in the middle.

I do not think you could get better.

                      Cheers, Rhet

Went to Toyota this morning and they tried to refer me back to ARB. I explained that the spotties were fitted by Toyota prior to delivery (new car) but they assured me I had to go to ARB. So I called ARB from the Service Desk and spoke to the Manager - who confirmed that they were fitted by Toyota and therefore a warranty problem for them.

Interestingly, the Manager says that he won't warranty these spot lights on the Toyota alloy bars due to flexing. He states that they lights should also come with 'stays', to support them better. So after a few further discussions with the Service Attendant, and another phone call to ARB by Toyota - a replacement set of lights (with stays) has been ordered.

They cost me $120 to do each light. This includes the bulb, ballast and high voltage extension leads.

I know that you can get them cheaper, but for someone who is an electrical spastic.......like me.......it was easier to pay a bit more and get them in a kit with instructions, and a warranty.

I am curious to see how the stays are attached. I have the round 900XS spotties and a set of the short stays (ARB also told me the lights are not covered by warrantly unless on a steel ARB bar) but I never put the stays on as I was unsure as to where they were supposed to attach. Once they are bolted to the top of the light I could not see where to bolt the other end, they are the short stays but they are too long to bolt back to the top bar.

I hoped that it wouldnt be a problem. I have looked at other IPF's on alloy bars and have not seen any cracking to date so I figured it was a ploy by ARB to get you to buy one of their bars. Obviously it does happen.

Anyway, am curious to see the results thanks NTP.
