Hi everyone. I have a 40l waeco fridge & fluro light with standard length cables and connect to the output jack from the dual battery which is located in the back of the Prado. We are undertaking our next a outback trip with a tent and not the trusty camper trailer. The problem is that both cables are not long enough to extend the length of the tent, so I would like to increase both lengths to about 5 metres. Waeco do not make an extension cable. What I would like to know - will extending either cable create any electrical / performance issues, and if not, what would be the min & max cable I should use. cheers. PoppyG

Re: Extention cables for Waeco fridge & fluor light
There would not be an issue in extending it by that much as long as you use the same thickness ( or thicker ) cable as used in the original lead.
What I'd do is make up a 5Metre extrension lead of say, 6mm twin cable, with dual Hella type sockets at the tent end.
You can get the bits from a caravan accessory or auto accessory shop.
Advise you to go away from the cigarette lighter style plug/sockets, if you canCheers, Wayne

Re: Extention cables for Waeco fridge & fluor light
For a 'heavy duty extension' cable, I used a twin 8 B&S cable length with an Anderson plug at either end that I simply plug into the Anderson on the rear of the Prado (that is connected to aux battery). I also have another very short Y'cable made with heavy duty cable that has an Anderson plug on one end and both a standard cig-lighter and heavy duty hela-type plug on the other ends. Using the 8B&S length helps ensure minimal loss over the extended run.
