Interesting thread gentlemen...I did post on the 'custom dump pipe' thread, but no one has got to it yet, so I'll post where there is a bit of action... I was just wondering: since some after market/performance exhaust manufacturers recommend a 2 3/4 inch exhaust, if I just replace the dump pipe with a 2.5" dump pipe and put a straight through muffler (which I have done) you'd think that the whole system then being 2.5" right through wouldn't be far off the mark, or at least that's what I'm reckonin'...

well funny enough the over diff and tail pipe is already 2.5 inch from the factory, i did a 65mm dump into a 3 inch straight through box back into the std tail pipe and it has made a big difference. cheers samo

Hey Samo, is the standard dump pipe 2.5" OD and then smaller on the ID? Can you tell from looking at it or do you have to pull it off? I assume that mine is standard, but they aren't cheap and it sounds like a mongrel of a job which one would hate to do for naught! You said you did 'a 65mm dump into a 3" straight through box'...I don't get it... so you're saying that the standard dump pipe is 65mm?...that's 2.5"... hmmm... do you or anyone else know the ID of the standard dump pipe? My pipe is 2.5" from the dump pipe back - just haven't been able to measure the OD of the dump pipe itself (...but I'm glad it makes a difference though!) Thanks, Paul.

hey paul the std dump pipe is smaller then the aftermarket 1 i have,my aftermarket 1 is 65mm id, the std 1 might appear to be a similar size but as it is cast iron it has a thicker wall thickness which would make it smaller ID,

from this picture you will see where after the flange the pipe tapers out into 3inch diameter

and in this pic you will see the 3inch pipe go into the 3inch muffler

removing the std pipe had be a bugger, i presoaked the nuts (with penetrene) that hold the std dumpipe on, but when the exhaust fitter had to remove them he had to heat the nuts up to get them off. hope this paints a clearer pic. cheers samo

Thanks Samo, that makes things a bit clearer. But it looks like that Advance dump pipe joins up where in the original exhaust there is no join. If that's the case then you can't just buy the dump pipe and bolt it in, you'd have to make a flange to join it too, is that right? Thanks again.

yeah thats right, im pretty sure the dump pipe came with a spare flange to make it a bit easier when you put it on.cheers samo
