  • D-Tronics Chip (Or Similar)

    G'Day

I have a question regarding the actual power/torque increase that you achieve by fitting a D-Tronics Chip (Or Similar) to a new D4D Prado? This is without any other mods such as exhaust. I would appreciate any info and opinions on whether you think it is worth the expense?

    Thanks

    Very worth the expense.
If you do a search here, there is a number of threads on the Dtronic and other performance mods already posted.

      Dr,

There are good gains in chipping a D4D with examples on this and other forums.
I'm wanting to do it but will not without an exhaust upgrade and EGT meter. Increased EGT is a killer on turbo diesels. Typicaly the first engine performance upgrade should be an improved exhaust system, which will decrease EGT and then increasee engine tune (via a chip or other upgrades) to return the EGT to factory specs. This way would get the perfomance upgrade without cooking the turbo.

Moved to 120 Diesel - thought it might be a better spot for this post.

Thanks for the info Leachy, I suppose I am reluctant to change a brand new exhaust but it looks like it may be unavoidable if I use a chip. I suppose regarding temperatures a Turbo Timer wouldn't go astray either?

            DR,

Yeh the idea of scrapping a brand new exhaust is what has held me back.
That and the fact that I haven't found any situations yet where I felt under powered in the D4D - including the Bornholm hill climb off the beach. Though I don't tow anything very big.

Here is the link to a tread on turbo timers pros and cons.

Personally I'm happy enough to just sit with the vehicle idling for a few minutes after is has been working particuarly hard.

              G'Day

Sorry to drag this post up again but I have had the DP Chip recommended to me as being a reasonably simple & safe option without changing the exhaust. The DP Chip comes with a new vehicle warranty
(http://www.dpchip.com.au/warranty.html) therefore you would expect it should cover excessive exhaust temperatures.

Has anyone fitted this chip without exhaust mods and if so what do you think?

Any other comments regarding this chip would also be appreciated.

              Thanks

I am looking into this with taipan xp after seeing the power gains on a 4.2 patrol in the lastest dvd that came with the 4wd action mag issue 110.

I think if you were to do it both would be the go. Also i am thinking exhaust first.

                  HI All,

How many members are interested in getting the Ditronic install into their D4D Diesels??

I ask this, as depending on level of interest, I may approach Safari Direct and try to get a special Price for us.

                  Please PM or email me

I fitted a Tunit module & have found a big increase in performance & fuel economy, what was suprising is the engine temp is reading a couple of degrees cooler as shown on my scan gauge, if anything I thought it would have run hotter, will get it dynoed soon & will post the results
