  • Fuel Consumption - T/Diesel

    Hi All,

    I have recently bought a 05 Auto T/Diesel.

Last Tank I checked fuel consumption, I got 1160 kms for 160 litres. Driving consisted of 360km long trip, about 30 kms of light 4Wding and the balance city driving, no traffiic jams.

I don't drive very hard and doubt that I would have exceeded 3000 revs so the consumption seems pretty high @ 13.79l/100kms or 20.14 MPG, Is it?

I may have been spoilt by having a Navara that regaularly did 10l/100km and obviously expected some increase in consumption going to auto.

    Your Thoughts please.

From people I have spoken to here in Alice, that fuel figure seems to be pretty consistant with what they are getting.

We average 10.6l/100 combined in ours (manual) with mods (suspension, steel bar, winch...++++ more stuff..)

Is yours standard? how about tyre size?

I see a trend with 1kz/high fuel use and the auto box?? Maybe an issue with the auto that someone is yet to discover?

We have friends with a GX manual that get into the 9's and friends with a 1kz Surf that get flat 11's.

Our last tank 100% city (Adelaide, in traffic to and from work) was 10.73....I drive to stay with the traffic

I have put BFG A/T's on in 265/75/17 and raised in about 40mm and alloy roobar, no other changes.

Is it possible I'll benefit from a specialist Diesel fuel injection workshop?.

Well there's the first factor...oversize tyres..your odo is out for starters..std tyres are 265/65/17 and the odo/speedo is spot on(or near enought to) against the GPS. With the bigger tyres you are travelling further than your odometer reads (Plus your speedo is reading under so don't get caught speeding).

I agree that if you are thinking of a tune up (dyno tune) then go to a specialist diesel tuner. Toyota dealers are only good for...... well nothing really.

At the very least a dyno tune will gain you a few extra kw.

              Mick,

I just checked, the tyres are actually 265/70/17's. I was told the speedo would be approx 5% out, so I suppose that will definitely relect in the mileage.

                hi guys

my 2006 TD Auto gets 14l/100 ks on 80% Higway so there is probably sme truth to there being a prblem related to autos.

Toyota service couldnt find thier ass with a map. Dont trust them. They claim these fuel figures are fine. They obviously dont pay $1.35 per ltr for fuel

Im taking mine to a Dyno next week.

                cheers

These figures are similar to what I get, but with care I can get better. I have the same motor and 265/70/17's. Remember, however, that if you have taller tyres that are 5% larger in diameter, they are reporting 5% less real kilometres covered. Therefore, you should add 5% of the killometres on the speedo to the total then do the calculation. It will be more accurate that way and will improve the real figures. It is usually about 1/2 a litre/100 kms.

12l per 100 is what i get where ever
dont drive hard, but usually 110-115 on highway

worse figures were towing boat (5.1 quinnie) to gnaraloo and back trip average 17

this year coming back 5 adults and gear, boat, 115km/h on flat around 20 - orright i thought given the load and speed - this was with out cruise on as would hold top gear with cc on

my mate in d4d hilux auto towed it up, he got 14

I get around 1350 km on a full tank. Thats a mix of highway and city driving. Low 12's.

Towing the van, it drops to around 1150 km. Mid 15's.

This was before the fitting of the DPChip. After the chip, fuel figures are about the same, but when towing, I'm able to get the same figures at a higher speed.
