  • New D4D - Steinbauer P-Box or Exhaust ???

OK OK ... I know that aspects of this topic have been widely covered in one way or another and I know that many are thinking...DO BOTH !!! but the reality is right now I cant afford to do both. It has to be one or the other. I have read a lot of posts about tuning modules and exhausts but I havent seen one (maybe I missed it) that covers it from the aspect of one or the other. I have read DaveO's replys to many of these and hope that he sees this. I have read his post suggesting do the Exhaust 1st. That is what I have been thinking.. I dont want to risk damage due to EGT. However I also read that the Steinbauer P-Box makes adjustments to ensure EGT does not become a threat... can anyone confirm this?

Has anyone out there done just the Exhaust...or just the Steinbauer P-Box? I'm really keen to hear from you.

    Cheers

ive done both but had the pbox on without the exhaust on for a month prior, with the steinburer pbox there are adjustments from 80-130%

max without the exhaust is 100%
max i found with the exhaust is 120%
but mine is currently set at 110%
120% is definitely the best performance setting but tends to have hasher gear changes.

      Thanks Champ,

that just confirms what the local Steinbauer agent told me. Interesting to look at the Dyno graphs... seems to show how much the exhaust free's up the engine in terms of response, with or without a tuning module. I think if I can get 490 oddd Nm's without needing to upgrade the exhaust, I'll do the module 1st.

I noticed in your earlier posts you had mentioned that at the higher settings, it made the gear changes a bit rough... Mine will be a manual, so I figure it wont have the same effect.. (torque will probably improve things) anyway.. I'm saving my rupees to get both eventually. I know that the exhaust will free things up and unlock full potential.

Any idea how many Nm's you are getting with your current set up?

prop around the 490-500nm never had it dynoed but brought the system off the dyno graphs from taipan Australia as they did the guy from Steinburers D4D prado

Ive yet to see a EGT probe fitted to DPchp or stiebuaer unit. In fact the only diesel performance modules that I have seen a EGT probe fitted to are for heavy vehicles (Cummins, some CAT, & Detriot Diesel DDEC / 60 Series etc)

With this in mind I wonder how they manage the EGT if there is no method of actually reading the EGT to make adjustments when it running high????

Even mine does not have linkage from the EGT probe to the diesel tuning module (although I'm thinking there is a way to do it for those into electronics

If you are after moderate performance increase then diesel tuning modules alone are OK. However its much better to improve the air flow, as this will also improve efficiency of the engine first (maybe improve economy too), then add the module afterwards. (Maybe you wont even buy the module).
