Thats good news, but check it every service as mine went from clean pickup and injectors within specs to smoke on startup, blocked pickup and leaking injectors in less then 10,000km after the check.. i was lucky i was aware of it due to prado point, my truck only had smoke on startup (when cold) no loss of power and no extra fuel usage so i can understand how easy it is to overlook this and without knowing blow the motor up.

Not sure of the lens size as to weather it will fit in the sump plug hole.

I saw at Mitre 10 they were selling the Bullant G6000 (I Think) camera for $99 on sale.
Is this the one most commonly used throughout this site?
If so seems like a deal to me!
No doubt the one from Super Cheap would do the job just as well but heard goog things about the bullant.

my engine just seized 12/06 Prado

I think its crap Toyota can get away with this type behavior in Australia, everone needs to contact consumer protectoin and report the cases past present and in the future as they need the evidence and they can force Toyota to Recall them.ASAP My Prado just seized on Kwinnana freeway in Perth Australia day Long wend without any warning, Bought new 12/06 D4D 3L diesel 1KD-FTV always serviced by Toyota only 180K. Occasionally when started produced white smoke from exhaust and reported to Toyota when serviced but told no smoke produced at workshop I hadnt researched any problems with them as it was a great car and I hadnt heard any different to suggest otherwise.
Pretty annoyed with Toyota for not being true to their customers,if I had of known about the fault with the injector washers I would have either had them done by Toyota or done them myself as I am a diesel mech myself, I have contacted consumer protection and reported case they have looked at forums and european recall campaign for Hilux and prado and said they need more complaints about these time bombs

I wouldn't worry about buying any thing yet until you check it. It may be clear and not needing anything....You can buy those flushes you wack in the engine just prior to changing oil but I don't like those things unless they have been used from the very start. Last thing you want is to flush it and end up with dislodging crap and have it floating through everything. (just my opinion on the flush) But yes I certainly would be checking the screen without fail......Cheers Steve

..and the idea is to replace the injector seals, not just clean the mesh

The only reliable way of cleaning the oil pump pick-up screen is by removing the sump.

Is the sump quite easy to take off? Any particular bolt pattern order etc?

                      Cheers,

Hi All, I have just had my Nov 2006 120 fail (155,000k's) with what the dealer says is a clogged sump pickup. Symptoms: engine revved high suddenly then oil light came on and engine was very rough. I stopped immediately and checked the engine but could see nothing. Had it towed to dealer and he is removing the head to see the extent of the damage. Does anyone have a link or any direct information that states a recall as this link suggests ( http://www.landcruiserclub.net/forum...njector-recall) ? I will continue searching Google but from this link It seems Toyota told dealers of this problem back in 2011 and it was up to dealers to notify customers or not. Can anyone confirm they have had this issue and how they dealt with it?Thanks in Advance.

You'll need to have a read of the diesel rattle thread. It's fairly long but will take you through the 2 main issues surrounding failure of the injector seals (sheets) which causes the oil sump blockage problem and failure of the injectors which causes piston failure through over fuelling. There never was a recall in Australia unlike the rest of the world. Mine blew at 73,000km. Good luck.

ok, so I just heard back from Toyota dealer and it is going to be an $8000 repair job. Full reconditioning of the bottom end (excuse the lack of mechanical knowledge - I'm no mechanic!) Rebore and instal oversize pistons and rings and new seals. When I asked about replacing the injectors I was told they were fine. I said I thought they were the cause of the problem and he said replacing the seals would solve the problem and that injector replacement was not necessary. When I asked if the same issue could cause more damage to the motor by not replacing the injectors he said he was not responsible for what happens after this repair! thinking he is a total Muppet! I have contacted the district service manager for Toyota Au and he contacted my dealer (Busselton Toyota) and Busseltons service manager is now putting in an out of warranty claim to Toyota which will be assessed and I will get a yes or no answer in a few days. When I asked the Busselton Service guy about this being a known issue with this model he said they had one recently and it required a new engine at a cost of $13K but would not give me the customers name so I could contact them, as apparently they put in an OOWC with Toyota as well and it was denied. If that person happens to be on Prado Point at all hopefully they will read this and be in touch as I'd love to talk to you about the process and the possibility that I may have another avenue to go down if this claim does not get me anywhere.

If the Prado has had its whole service history there, you have an out. The 80K km service TMJ specifically states that the valve clearance check involves pulling the injectors.

This has been mentioned more than once, I have been caught out on this. I feel your pain. Mine cost $13K, and I went the full re-build. Baileys Injectors.

Reject 100% the bad fuel claim that will no doubt make its appearance. You might have to take TMCA to small claims - I don't know what the maximum claim is under WA laws.

Thanks to all at Pradopoint I may have just saved my D4D from a costly rebuild. Yesterday I removed my oil pickup screen for a clean and was stunned with what I saw. Can't believe engine is still running. The screen looks to be fully clogged and I can't understand how oil was still passing thru it. My '07 model has 185 000km on it, injectors were replaced at Toyota dealer at about 150 000km new seals again at 160 000km service (valve clearance service). At 180 000km service I asked dealer to check screen which I thought would of been done at every service anyway. They advised screen was badly blocked and will need to be unclogged in the near future and was suggested perhaps at the 190 000km service. He said it didn't need to be done tomorrow but shouldn't be left another 20 000km. And while I was still deciphering what he was telling me he of cause blamed the blocked screen on non Toyota servicing prior to 55 000km when I purchased the vehicle. What a cop out! Fortunately curiosity got the better of me and I dropped the oil at 185 000 and decided to clean screen myself. I can't believe that the service people at Toyota allowed me to drive the vehicle away with the screen so badly clogged. Won't be going back to that dealership. Thanks again and hopefully I can attach photos (before and after) for everyone to see.
