Hey ####. What you are saying is gospel mate. You cant have a car with upwards of 1/4 million kays and expect to not start spending money on it.
What is relevant is how much mud you drown your alt & starter in i guess...
I just had to put new brushes in my starter a few months ago...
Ill probably consider carrying a spare alt on my next big trip
And im currently sorting thru bushs in the front end.

But i guess this thread is about the 1kzte motor not all that other crap...

Im looking to make 1/2 million kays out of my donk for sure now.

I have 1 customer that barely has me do the handbook servicing.
2003 kzj120, services were never more often than every 20,000klms, (lately 30k or more)
Did the radiator at just iver 100k, as it had the small leak at he sides these toyotas get.
Other than that bugger all, no glow plugs, no injectors, nothing else..... Well 1 set of brake pads,
It's close to 300k and rus real well. ( I can imagine the glow plugs, and how much better it could be)
They just don't want to spend the full preventative maintenance on it.
But they will buy a new one soon as they have got there $35k worth out of it 300.000k 10years......
This is what I mean, how far do you go?
I just think, based on a Toyota, kzj120, manual with full service history, it ant going to have a failure that stops you and leaves you sitting unless you are real unlucky. Typically it May develop an issue, but still be drivable. Like my gearbox, or a slipping clutch, I read one of these travelled 600k on a full battery with a screwed alternator, etc Etc.
I know replacing everything before it happens is reliability but its all calculated risk hey.......

I think the biggest concern for all is the issue of the transfer case getting stuck in low.
Once again not stopped the vehicle, but it will slow it down a lot!
I have heard from the towies this is what stops them, and in the high country a fair bit.

I can't wait to see how far these engines will go.......

Hey barkem.
I trust u will be changing your timing belt cos at 300 its due again.
Be assured your lucky to get this far on your original waterpump... Just change it out when you do the timing belt.
You will rest easy on your next big trip mate.

Deffo. ive been dreading the cam belt change for a while now but whilst they have it off ill get the water pump done too as i have no idea if its been done. I bought the car at 245k and it had...hmm a limited service history..i.e they gave up after 175k. Still goes great tho, just spent the weekend in the Alps towing a camper trailer up some steep hills.

Timing belt Is a easy and pretty quick cheap job on these. Nothing to dread.
