  • Anyone else notice a major price increase in diesel?

    Hi All,

I was just filling the Falcon up this afternoon and the ULP price was 141.9/ltr. I happened to look over to the diesel pump to check what the price was and it had jumped up to 150.9/ltr.

Now I know last week diesel was down at 144.9/ltr. I am beginning to think the diesel price is reflecting the fact that diesel is becoming more popular and so the fuel companies are jacking up the price to profiteer from it. Maybe diesel is not being monitored by the ACCC investigation into fuel pricing so the companies are trying to make up the losses on ULP by jacking up the diesel price?

THe price does not seem to move to much here, it's just fill up and hand over the first born son.

I don't think the goverment want to do much about fuel pricing as each time fuel goes up so does the money they get from GST.

It may be a different story if the states step in.

They heard about the return fuel figures the D4D is producing, and increased the price to cover.

Crikey! I better ask for a full tank to be thrown in. I would hate to see what it is at Marla or Kulgera.

When going thought the quote for mine it had $240 for full tank of fuel.
After dicussiing this with the sales man who said the lease company requires that the car be delivered with a full tank of fuel but they then pass that on to you.

As luxuary vehicles tax was going to apply, you then pay that tax on top of the fuel cost!!

He said he could remove the fuel cost and just put in 1/4 tank which we did. I can just drive to the nearest servo and fuel up, claim the money back from the lease company.

I'm just getting the basic due to the luxury tax will add the extras later then I don't pay the extra tax.

Still have to pay the rip off stamp duty here in WA though!!!!!

I heard an explianation the other month as to why diesel prices don't vary like petrol prices do.

Farmers and trucking companies are able to claim rebates on thier diesel fuel.

Most of the luxury European cars that are diesel are leased, and the lease companies have special price deals with the fuel companies. These drivers also don't pay GST on the fuel.

The only people that pay the FULL price for diesel are the small number of privately owned 4WD owners.

As a result, there isn't as much private demand for diesel as petrol, hence no discounting of diesel.

And I heard this from someone working in the fuel industry!

There was a small article in the Sunday Times here in Perth about BP's new "Premium Diesel", to be rolled out to 40 BP Fuel stations around Perth. They're saying it has a higher "Cetane" (the equivalent to octane) rating. Supposed to improve engine performance and lower carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydrocarbon emissions. Also contains an "anti foaming" agent that reduces foaming and odour. Oh, and all the Diesel Ultimate bowsers will also get hand wipes too..... 4c a litre more though......

                      fuel prices

The 180 tank is great, i normally time mine for tuesday night/ wednesday morning, garuntee cheapest. With the tank you can pretty much plan this unless you are travelling. I fill up at shell and the other little thing i have found on the shell website is that you can key in a location and it will tell you the current price as i have three/ four servo's close around me and they can vary 4-6 cents between them. In the last few months have been paying around 1.04-1.08 per litre, with these price's their isn't much difference between petrol comsumption and deisel price,

Go the power of the PETROL!!!!!!!

(Much Difference) Yes there is the D4D Diesel will go approx 500 k's further.

At last the price of Diesel in Melbourne is now starting to fall, or be it slowly.
Last check $1.28 per litre. Remembering our tax is higher than in Queensland.

I don't know about Queensland but we have recently had a 20 cent per litre Safeway discount voucher recently, now that was a saving.

                        Go Diesel Torque!!!!!!!! 8)

At the BP garage at Bulla (back road from Melbourne Airport to Sunbury) last week diesel was 128.9 cpl.

Best I'd seen for a while around the area as even garages just 50km from Melbourne claim they are rural and the cost of transport means their prices are higher than the city. Usually by at least 10 cents a litre. (they must have special motors in their transporters that use more than standard prime movers!)

So at Sunbury diesel was 138.9

From Bulla to Sunbury is only 8km and people can save 10 cents per litre.

Makes it worth the short drive. Pity I don't live closer but I do work at the airport ocassionally enough and with the 180 litre tanks can often avoid country fuel prices.
                          Adrian.

                            EASTER 2008,
The major fuel companies never seize the opportunity to raise their prices  .
                            Just coincidence

In Melbourne, how come Shell have raised their prices to in excess of 150 cents per litre & yet a lot of & Eleven stores are still selling for 138.5

That's more than the 3 or 4 cents profit margin that the petrol companies claim?????? & I am certain that 7 Eleven would not be selling at a loss.

(True or not)? I was informed by a proprietor at one of the 7 Eleven stores that the supplier of their fuel is in fact SHELL

We are all feeling the pain,

                            Have a safe Easter,

I was out in Middlemount for work and have my missus Commodore while we wait for the D4D.

Petrol was 1.45/L and Diesel was 1.56/L. This servo is pretty bad as the servo 60kms down the road (further from the distributor) is typically 5-7 c/L cheaper for all fuels!!!

I have also worked out that a tour (7 shifts) at work will be about 1100kms. So if I fill the D4D in Mackay before I go, I should be able to do a tour and get home without fill up out there. Fuel in Mackay is normally 10-12c/L cheaper.
