    HI Guys,
Came across this....some good reading here.
    http://www.lcool.org/technical/elec_...ng/tuning.html
Might need to cut and paste. My 6 y.o isn't here to show me how to do a link.

Can someone please give me a photo or description of where the DPChip plugs into? I took mine off a year ago (or should I say my brother-in-law mechanic showed me) and now I can't locate the plug.

      Thanks in advance.

        Hey Tappets

if you have a look at my post in the sponsors part of the forum I put some information about DieselSmart modules in there. Very simple to fit yourself and if you get stuck chances are you live near one of our outlets that can fit it for you.

There are plenty of products on the market, just make sure you do your homework before buying something because there are a lot of people out there that will scam you and sell you something you don't want

        @violet
I think they have fitting instructions on their website

        Cheers,
        Adam

          Hi,
I installed a "Chipit" d4d module to my '07 Grande with 95k on the clock. My motivation was to make towing the Kimberley camper (1200kg +) smoother on the highway.
On the plus side - it works, extra power and the transmission holds in top on inclines where before it would be dropping down through the gears. On my run from home (Broken Hill) up to Tibboburra sitting on 95kph I achieved 11.6 LPHK towing the trailer - much better than before. Off road on the Strezleki up to Innamincka, 20 - 80kph I achieved 12.4 LPHK, again, pretty good. Unhitched, I really notice the extra power between 1800 - 2500 RPM. I feel that any fuel saving comes from being able to hold in top gear while cruising.

On the down side - It blows exhaust smoke until it is warm and the rattle is very noticable again until warm to hot (it is a cold winter here).
          I wouldn't bother with it if I wasn't towing as I don't do much hard-core 4wd, but when towing it's another matter!!

            Up date on fuel consumption.
My wife has just driven back from Echuca (no trailer) and averaged 9.2 lphk at 110+kph. Thats pretty good at that speed... so maybe there are fuel savings to be had.

Latest update - 700km round trip down to Mildura then home - an amazing 8.3 lphk.
Sitting on the GPS speed of 111kph (118 kph speedo) and 2200rpm, with cruise control on. Probably get even better consumption if I drove it with the cruise control off. Buckets of extra power on tap as well!!
That has to be at least 2 ltrs per 100 km better than before I installed the chip. The chip is set at 5 out of a possible 10.
I have no vested interest in this chip company - just happy to report as a satisfied customer.

                  2005 D4-d (1KD-FTV)

I have had 2 x tuning boxes fitted over the years.
One that plugged in line with the injector module, just behind the passenger side battery.
This takes a 12v pos, and neg from the battery.
And a signal from the accelerator pedal.

The second one fitted in line with the fuel pressure sensor on the passenger side of the engine block, near the front of teh engine.
No supply from battery or accelerator for this box.

As mine is an auto, I found they didn't make a blind bit of difference.
If any extra HP or TQ, was developed, then that simply meant the auto box would down shift.

Probably totally different with a manual box.

I have sold the first box I bought, genuine Toyota tune box.
The second box I bought is removed at the moment, so no tune box currently fitted.

I found neither of them made any difference to fuel consumption either.

Vetta what a perfect candidate you are for a Chip It Module.

Seriously, you purchased units that weren't any good. If someone told me the chip didn't do anything, I would know its not working right or he didn't fit it right.

Yep! try the Chip It Module.

You will be surprised, especially if the 1st two didn't work.

I've had one just under 2 months and still can't get rid of the grin.

I have the Chip IT module and the vehicle runs a lot better and that's without the exhaust upgrade (still waiting for it Robert )

I went with the Steinbauer chip and Beaudesert 2 & 3/4 exhaust.

Good power upgrade and about same in fuel, unless towing and you push hard.

Main reason I went Steinbauer was it was a holistic set up that didn't just raise pressure in the common rail which may lead to over fuelling and lots of other problems.

Keep searching on here as there was a thread that had a link to the 4wd Action comparo and a few other analyses. I just can't find it any more (I think it is >12mths old).

Got a roo system chip and exhaust, huge diference in power and torque. the only mistake I made was telling Allianz insurance I had them fitted cause they withdrew the insurance sayingthey don't insure preformance modified vehicles.
