  • Re: FUEL CONSUMPTION

I noticed my fuel consumption, in litres per 100km, had gone up whilst monitoring the scanguage.

Seems as though I have stuffed up whilst refuelling and when entering "fill up" into scan guage I had to adjust by 140%. Somewhere along the way I have stuffed up the resetting of the system.

So, after refuelling and going through the whole setup process again, I'm getting the low consumption figures that I used to.

Went to busselton with the caravan for a week, the jayco expanda loaded and with 4 bikes onboard, Prado loaded with 3 kids and engel loaded also, pram etc.
Refueled and returned 14 litres per 100kms. This was driving down and back with the van and a bit of running around town. I am happy with this but unfortunately i dont get great figures when unloaded around town. I am averaging 11 litres 100kms around town. Dont know if the bull bar, lights, make much difference.
      Cheers

Just drove from North Richmond in NSW to Port Augusta in S.A. using a total of 165 litres. According to my economy calculator we achieved 10.91 litres per 100km travelling at 112 km/h for most of that distance.

Filled up yesterday after driving solely around town (I know I know, how depressing)... Driving pretty conservatively most of the time.

157ltrs put in with 1110kms on the trip meter. Works out to be 14.14l/100kms...

You must have had a lot of grog if the back-end was sagging and you were not towing a trailer. I can load mine right up to the gunnels with all sorts of gear, including bags of concrete, and the back will not droop. It only comes down when I'm towing hence the poly air bags in the rear.
Well it isn't exactly dragging it's bum on the ground, but the headlights were noticeably glaring oncoming cars on low beam and if I parked the car on level ground it was clearly lower in the rear.

And yes there was a lot of wine. We couldn't drink it all, had to bring some back.

                750km for 93 litres that's 8.07km/litre. 350 running around town and 400km Kal - Esperance @ 110.

                That's 12.4 litres per 100km, hardly 9.3.

No passengers, no gear, full tanks. 11,000km on the clock.

Over 63,000k my D4D has averaged 9.7l/100km. I have a 50km each way drive to work across Brisbane of which 50% is at 80-100km/h. Best has been 8.57l/100km (commuting from Tweed heads to Brisbane every day for 2 weeks), worst has been 13.6l/100km (towing Jayco to holidays with some beach work).

My previous Kluger (2004 model) averaged 11.8l/100km over 98,000km doing exactly the same drive to work and holidays. The Kluger often went over 17l/100km when towing.

I run BFG T/A of 265/70/R17 profile which have made the speedo 100% accurate. I compared the speedo with GPS and Decataur Gen 11 mobile radar (as used by WA & QLD police) and confirmed accuracy.

3 month old new turbo diesel ( 3 litre fully stock except roof bars and bull bar) and got a return of 1770kms for about 165 litres of fuel. That included a mix of highway ( 450kms fully loaded from a trip away) and the rest driving to and from work. If you drive it " sensibly " you can get a good return from the diesel.

Careful re-calibration of the scanguage and I'm back to 8.6 litres per 100km.

The scanguage and odometer and fuel intake are all just about 100% spot on with each other and that has made a huge difference to the figures - much better than the 12.4 l/100km that I complained about before.

Scanguage says I can do another 1660 on top of the 500km that I've already done, that's over 2100km - I'd love to see that!

I have just come back from a 4 week trip Canberra - Kalgoorlie - Perth - Margaret River - Albany - Esperance - Canberra, towing a Coromal Excel 511 caravan at 105-115km/hr. Travelled a total of 9850km, with avergae fuel consumption (auto) at 15.1lt per 100km for the total trip. Worst was around 19lt per 100km into severe headwinds across the Nullabor.

Had a mate who was towing a similar van in a brand new SS V8 ute with - he averaged around 25lt per 100k for the trip.......we called at every servo/roadhouse on the road for him to refill.

Have to say, the Prado was prettty well the perfect vehicle for this trip, and was absolutely faultless.
