  • I just did a ~80 KM round trip to the shack to mow the grass, ScanGauge showed me:

    1) Way there - Avg. 7.9
    2) Way back - Avg. 8.1 - but I was driving into the wind!

    • Mmm, I just went from Brissy to Sydney in a light Prado with nothing but Aero bars on the roof. Got all the way here from the Sunshine Coast on less than one tank (not changed tanks yet). I'll confirm the mileage more accurately when I next fill up, which will have some city miles included by the time I do it.

Everybody knows the circumference of the earth is less down your way and that you are closer to the south pole. So I'm sure this will have an effect on your consumption figures.

Might be...or it might be that I'm on a re-built engine with less than 1200KM's on it...

Jeez, you must have nothing to do but watch every post as it is written. Do you have some sort of program or what? I wrote and then thought better about it about 3 seconds after posting.

I was going to say 13.5l/100km @ 130km/hr for 600km. I'll say that it was across the NT then I won't get slapped for being naughty. Seems I can average around 10l/100km at 100, 11 @ 110, 12 @ 120 and 13 and a bit @ 130. And that was with 2 large swags and a chainsaw box on the roof rack. And running on BP Ultimate too.

                  • Measuring fuel consumption

                    Hi Guys,

Might be a silly question, but what's the best way to measure fuel consumption?
I know how many km I have traveled, but how do you measure the diesel (litters) used?

                    Thanks
                    Ty

                    • Mate the only true way is start with full tanks. Set trip meter to zero. Drive where you need to using either both or one tank even part of one tank. Refill tanks to full then, liters divided by klms done on trip meter x 100= L per 100 k....you may want to do this few times to get an average or you may know that your doing a trip which is just all freeway driving so do it then, or you may be just running around town for 2 weeks.... You will get variances eg running aircon, hilly terrain, head winds, towing, people on board, lift, type of Tyres bullbar etc.... cheers Steve

                      • Thanks Steve. Will give it a go
I manged to travel about 1400km on my last full tank (mostly around town) so preaty happy with that. Didn't check the litters though.
                        Cheers

                        • I'm still testing out my "new to me" 99 Prado RV 2.7 Petrol,

From factory the average consumption was 14.4L/100km

Up Double Island a few weeks ago I managed 19L/100km

Running around town, which is short highway drives and then to and from shops etc I have been getting 10-12L/100km

I think the old girl must still be quite healthy!

                          • Hi All,
I have a 2007 D4D all the extras with 99k on the clock.
                            Been measuring fuel consumption...
Short trip or country k's usually drinks on average 12.3 to 12.7 L/100
Towing our caravan it drinks 14-16 L/100, have only towed for short trips, doing a big one over X-Mas so will be a true consumption check.

Reading all prior posts, seems average, my conclusion is generally a lift kit and bullbar adds 2L/100.

                            • Im getting a bit over 16L/100 on my D4D all country driving but has a few bolt on's that seem to be mucking economy up a little.

Ive never got less then 12L/100 even when the prado was stock standard but on highway ill always sit on the limit.
