question though, are all BP's the same? Does it have to say ultimate on the pump to be the good stuff? is it more exp than normal diesel? do all BP's have ultimate?

Not all BP's are the same: only WA(I think?), SA and QLD get ultimate.
It will say ultimate on the pump if it is ultimate.
Otherwise it is likely to be BP's 'new formula' stuff: it has an orange tag on pump. Infact maybe they've all switched over now and there is no more tags?
So yeah, not all BP's have ultimate: unlucky if you live in NSW or Vic.
Last week driving through the back blocks behind Gympie... diesel was $1.49 and ULP was $1.56...
Is that normal for rural areas?
Most places were $1.51 for diesel and $1.53 or $1.56 for ULP

I use BP, have a noted change in engine performance and noise when using caltex. Our lease provides us with BP and Caltex Cards, last time I used Caltex was a year ago trying to run the tanks low as we were going to the snow and was going to refuel with alpine diesel. In desperation had to use Caltex to get through to the next BP, within 30 kilometres the engine had increased clatter and wasn't running smoothly at all it also seemed to lose power on hills.
After filling with 170 litres of BP alpine diesel, smoothness and power returned to almost normal after about 120 kilometres. It wasn't until it was serviced again after the snow trip that the car returned to normal.
Cheers

I've tried Shell, BP and Vortex. No noticeable difference on any of them in my opinion So I just buy what's cheapest on the day (but never from independents).

If you put in your postcode it will tell you all the BP's in your chosen area, click on any BP and it will tell you the fuels they sell. Theres only a few in Adelaide that dont sell it, one of them being the handiest to my house but i pass 4 with Ultimate Diesel on the trip to work so its all good.
Luckily so far ive been able to plan trips and know where the Ultimate is sold but were heading off on one soon and it can't be done using only BP Ultimate, though i'll be able to carry some jerrys and use BP garages.

You are fortunate to be able to get BP Ultimate. I contacted BP to ask when BP Ultimate would be available in Townsville Nth Qld.
Their reply was that at this point in time, they (BP) has no plans of introducing it into Nth Qld. End of story?????
Even here it must be an on servo basis if they decide they want it or not. The one nearest me is super busy and i would love to support it but no UD no business.

Just wondering about all these people that will use nothing but BP, what do you do when you are in the outback? I have no idea what brand of diesel of bought form Mt Dare, or Drysdale station, I don't recall there being a BP at Birdsville either and I can't even remember where I filled up with fuel up the top of Cape York.
I can't quite come to terms with one brand of diesel being the only way to go, after all a lot of the time I don't have a choice anyway.
Cheers Andrew

I plan my trips around BP fuel.
There's BP in Birdsville, I can't remember what Mt Dare has.
If I really had to fill up else where I would, but that's why I'm getting a long range tank. and I'd carry jerrys if i had too.
