    Gidday all, i have just arrived back from my northern journey from Brisbane up to the Darwin, via Kakadu, Lichfield, Daly river, Adelaide river, Uluru then onto Mt Dare on the edge of the Simpson then back into central Qld.

    For those of you that are contemplating towing a caravan with the 1KD i have some figures below you may find interesting.

    Total kilometers travelled: 16,725

    Diesel fuel used: 2580 litres

    average consumption: 15.42 litres / per 100 ks (best was 13.2 l/100 worst was 18.6 l/100 into head wind)


    All the above whilst towing a tandem axle Jayco Discovery outback caravan (weight around 2.3-2.5 tonnes)

    Average speed on highway 85 KPH corrected ( odometer reads 91 KPH with 6% error)

    Also like to mention no punctures with the cooper AT3 tires

    extras car has fitted bull bar, spotlights, roof rack, lift kit, snorkel, 3" exhaust (no chip)

    I am happy with the above numbers especially after talking to other travellers that were somewhat envious of the Prados economy.

    Note: new injectors fitted before i left Brisbane which was money well spent i believe.

    The odometer reading now sits at 198,657 ks so must be the highest reading 1KD on Pradopoint i think??

    hey frederick, just out of interest did you have a reason to change your injectors like the cold rattle or were you told they were out of spec. Just that my 2007 D4D GX has 160k on it and I'm wondering if I'll be up for new injectors soon, after reading the thousands of comments on this site about the injectors causing the engine to seize (worst case scenario i suppose). It doesn't rattle at all and I've only had it for the last 10,000 ks of its life.

    And that sounds like an awesome trip, but i cant comment on the fuel economy because i don't tow. Mine sits around 10.2 litres/100k's no matter what kind of driving i do with a 2" lift.

      Hi perthspark, as I followed the pradopoint thread regarding the dreaded cold start rattle and as my vehicle had done 160,000 k like yours I was mindful that the injectors were due to be changed anytime soon, and my reasoning was better to change them out before my trip ( more cost effective) than to be towed somewhere in the NT and pay half as much again so they were changed out in Brisbane and the manifold and throttle body cleaned, new fuel lines etc for around 3 grand. Money well spent in my humble opinion.
