    Put simply!! ... "NO!"

No!.. As in it will not make a blind bit of difference to the life extension of the fuel injectors by fitting a bonnet scoop or re-locating the inter-cooler but it would improve fuel emissions in traffic jams & maybe an UN-noticable difference in your fuel consumption!! .... As for the cost to do either conversions the savings in fuel consumption you would never get your money back in the long run? Lol

Now that you have the new DLC fuel injectors with the improved seating washers and hopefully the oil pick-up-pipe was also checked for fouling (Oil-pick-up-pipe gets fouled with carbon deposits when injector washers breach/leak!).

    Cheers

I just had to spend $3900 to replace all 4 injectors in my 08 D4D, the mechanic told me he did not know how my engine didn't seize as the seals were ruined.
reading on here it appears to be the top mount intercooler getting hot, heating the seals and ruining them.
has anyone tried a bonnet scoop? or is the only way to solve this problem putting the intercooler on the front?

      signed,

one very broke and unsatisfied prado owner.
No fitting a bonnet scoop wont make the slightest difference (yes I have one). Also the talk of moving the intercooler is also IMO a load of BS. Injectors always have and always will wear out, that's just a fact of life. @ $3900 to get your injectors changed I think you have paid absolute top dollar and maybe then some. It can be a DIY job for as little as $1000!

      Cheers Andrew

injector seats come with injectors so if they charged you for injector seats seperately then you've got double charged there...toyo can get bit cheeky like that

            • Toyota and others will tell you that you need to change the injector pipes as well as a few other minor things, but it can be done without changing the pipes which are $600 ish from memory.

You can buy genuine Injectors cheaper than the price you paid, you can also buy Baileys Blueprinted injectors for $1100 but less if they run a special which they did last year before Christmas. These injectors come with the new seating washers.

To change the injectors I reckon for a good operator you are looking 4 hours or so work, certainly read reports people charging $400 labour for the job, but that's maybe at the low end of the spectrum.

              Cheers Andrew

                • Would an intercooler fan help transfer the heat away instead of the front mount intercooler conversion? I know the 3.0l patrol owners do this mod to help egt problems?

                  • The heat is transfered from the combustion chamber and cylinder head into the injector. Some cooling is provided as the fuel passes through the injector. Increasing airflow through the intercooler won't do much for the cylinder head due to the insulated cover fitted on top. But, a bonnet scoop does look tough!
