  • 120 D4D Vivration between 1300 to 1600 rpm.

Hi All, I have an 08 D4D Auto which has developed a vibration felt mainly through the steering wheel but also through the floor at between 1300 and 1600 rpm. I have taken the advice of another member and packed under the air box with polystyrene and even fitted s/s self tapping screws to all plastic plugs holding wheel arch protector plastic in place (as suggested by dealer, used in 150 series to fix similar problem) but to no avail. Assistance with this problem will be much appreciated.

    Regards
    Jon:cry:

We've just bought a 5/09 120 VX D4D auto with 60000 kms with the same problem; I can feel the vibration in the left footrest then though the accelerator at different rpm in the range you so specify. I packed some foam under the air box but it didn't fix it. Done heaps of Internet searching but most refer to the 150 and with no definitive fix, it's very annoying. Next step is to put dynamat in the guard...

May be engine mounts in both cases. If you search (google pradopoint+engine+mounts) and have a read how to test. I am assuming that you know about the D4D injector issues and it is not that. As far as I know (my experience) there wasn't a resonance issue with the 120 inlet system though I had a snorkel from day one.

Thanks for the reply mjrandom. After reviewing those threads, I don't think mounts are the issue in my case; the vibration doesn't occur at idle as described in most of those threads, although the mileage is about right for a failure, it could be an early symptom.

I'm not sure how close my car is to the end of the series but am wondering if they started to use 150 parts in the 120 towards the end of the run and whether that maybe a factor in my case.

Sorry cannot help you at all in that case. The only thing is to run the engine until it vibrates and then physically pull and poke things until the noise shuts up. I have a slight resonance with my 150 with Safari snorkel and I have to say Safari have been totally useless and disinterested. I am going to dynamat the inner guard to change the natural frequency of the panel and see how it goes. My vibration is very nominal.

I've got the same problem, engine mounts and injectors replaced. ...Vibration felt mainly through the steering wheel but also through the floor at between 1300 and 1600 rpm... exactly the same. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! Jonwood have you had any luck ?

So Dynamatting the rhs guard helped a lot. I also put dynamat in the drivers footwell. There is still a vibration but it has been dampened to a an acceptable level. So I'm happy enough now.
