Hi Tony,
Any update on how your fix went?
It happened to me again today- this time i was 1/2 full on 2nd tank.
last time 6 months ago it got down to 1/4 full on 2nd tank....
this time also could not fill up the tank -had to dribble the fuel in.
Sounds like a mix of all different problems now!
hope your fix worked for ya Tony
have you checked the fuse for fuel pump
15amp blue fuse next to horn

Yeah i Did Octane- The fuse was fine.
I am thinking that the fuel pump assembly is probably crapped itself... just don't understand why it would work after i put fuel in? surely if it works now there is nothing wrong with it? what are your thoughts?

it could be on of 3 things:
1- you dont actually have any fuel in the tank when it cuts out, faulty fuel sender.
2- cluster may be playing up and sending wrong message to pump.
3- sadly Ecu problem.

Had the truck at mechanics yesterday. He spoke to Toyota tech and they advised him that the mining hilux trucks have this occur quite a bit and it seems to be due to a blocked fuel filter between the tanks. He has replaced that filter and now I just need to drive it to see if the same thing happens. Said pump worked fine when he took the filter out and started the truck fuel was flowing out.
Will let you know if the filter was the problem or not when I get down into my sub tank.

if the filter was blocked the motor would be running pretty rough like 1000rpm idling when hot.
