How many fuel filters

Hi everyone, wondering how many fuel filters there are on 07 D4D is there one per tank or just one for the two tanks, plus the one under the bonnet. :?: Thanks Russ.

pretty sure that there is a gauze filter in the tanks which will strain most stuff over a mill or 1/2 millout and there is the under bonnet one

D4D Dual Tank Model Fuel Filters

:roll: Hi Rusty, This has been a frustration with me for the past 12 months & believe the Toyota Service Depts. are ill informed. There are 2 in-line fuel filters; the most prominent is located in the engine bay, combination filter/water trap. The second (should this be the primary filter) is located above the rear drive shaft, between the 2 fuel tanks. This filter P/N 23300 30130 is the filter in my opinion that should be changed at 20K intervals for the reasons as follows: Item 3 in the Service Schedule calls for the replacement of the Fuel Filter (diesel models-dual fuel tank). Item 9 in the Schedule call to inspect the Water sediment accumulator (diesel models) which is the Filter/trap replaced in Item 3 & now new/clean! When questioned, the Service Depts. did not know a second filter was in the system & have never replaced it! Could not show me when this 2nd filter would be replaced in the Service Schedule! Believe this mystery filter cost approx. $80.00 & suspect difficult to replace due to its location. Is this the reason Mr. Toyota do not replace this filter? Will replace mine at the next service.

Hi Rob, I agree with you on every point i know the filter between the two tanks is there , i found it one day while looking over my new Prado. I just was not sure if it was the only one under there , it should of been changed at its last service by the dealer but i dont think it had been , as you say they may not even know about it. I do all my own services now so i will be changing it myself, there is plenty of room under there. That $80 price tag is a bit rich its only a small filter :?: , i will check the price out tomorrow , Many thanks for your reply, Russ.

Fuel filter between dual tanks.

Hey Rusty,
If you do get around to replacing the filter between the tanks yourself, would you let us all know how easy it was as the filter has those new fangled quick (or not so quick) release clamp types? Did you require a special tool which Mr. Toyota has told me is required!

Rob, I have not done anything about it yet but the quick release clips that are on there i also have on my Barina fuel filter which i remove with two small flat screw drivers thats if they are the same clips :?:

Hi Peter, here are a few pics , hope its a bit clearer for you the filter is above the tail shaft and the muffler half way long the main tank up close to the floor. I still have not had a close look at the clips yet to see what i need to release them. Russell.

Hi all,
had alook on the parts computer today, that p/n didn't come up!!
suggusting it may be a "pulsation bumper" they use them on the 4.2litre turbo diesel engine in the cruisers!

I dont know about the part number , but i rang my local dealer and they have them at $65, with trade discount i should pick one up for around $55. Russ.

Hi Sacred Cow,
I think the spelling should have read Pulsation Damper, a pulsation damper is used in fluid or air sytem(s) to smooth out pulsations caused by intermittent flows, which in fuel sytems are caused by diaphram type pumps.

The pulsations are smoothed so that sensitive sensors or fittings are not damaged or sensors give spurious readings.

In large fluid and air systems can caused major hydraulic shock damage.

I could give you much finer detail, but would bore the living hell out of our readers.
