    Re: 1zk-te vs 1kd-fte

prior to the purchase of the prado i had a 06 new hilux for work(d4d).loved the power and torque and now wished that we had waited the 3 months for a new manual, however our 06 is still a very nice vehicle especially with only 42,000kms on the clock and never been off road-hopefully that will change shortly.

mine is a 1KZ-TE and i found it sluggish when hill climbing and over taking a speed on highways...any i put a performance chip ,custom 3 inch dump pipe and mandrel bent exhuast and now it hammers!!!

the improvement in power is really noticable, especially the way better ecconomy!!

          Re: 1zk-te vs 1kd-fte

My Mate who gave me the initial push to get a Prado drives a 95 series 1zk-te (year 2000) GXL model which he has had since new. I am still trying to get him on the forum. Out of interest though he has fuel figures going way back but here is a quick summary.

Best ever 8.96 for 100 Km
          Averages for following years
          2003 11
          2004 11.3
          2005 10.05
          2006 10.2
          2007 9.86
          2008 10.18
He has city and Holiday driving and in some years big holidays with his camper trailer, in 2005 he installed a K and N filter and had a big tune up. He has allways been happy with the performance when towing his camper trailer.

            Re: 1zk-te vs 1kd-fte

            Hi Bonno,

Sorry for the late reply - it's been mad house since the Chinese New Year so I haven't visited Pradopoint for a while.

31 cents per litre for diesel? Its about AUD$1.18 per litre in Melbourne, but a couple of months back it peaked at around $1.25 a litre.

So do the Brunei spec VX Prado only come with a single 90 litre tank? The Aussie spec Prado comes standard with two tanks, for a total of 180 litre fuel capacity.

Back on topic again re 1KZ-TE vs 1KD-FTE, I think that whilst the 1KZ is more tolerant of bad diesel, it does have a relatively high fuel consumption for a diesel motor, especially compared to the 4.0 V6. Is that motor available in Brunei? What's the price of unleaded over there?

            Cheers,

            Lawrance

              Found this on the net...

For those who don't necessarily understand what variable "vanes" in a turbocharger are....here's a nice little .gif animation

Notice the "vanes" around the wheel. They change direction to change flow characteristics of air as they enter the wheel.

Yep, only a single 90L tank.

D4D 3.0L 1KD-FTV is the biggest you can get here, in the Fortuner and HiLux. Still not avail in the Prado VX .

Unleaded is 0.53c/L BND or about 0.49c/L AUD....

                  Wow!

It's around AUD$1.20 a litre here.... A lot of it is government tax.

                  Sigh!!! :|
