  • 200km -300km service procedures

Hi all, i have been doing alot of reading and am unable to find what needs to be done at service intervals between 200km-300km. I am new to diesel and have read about oil/filter change every 5000km , so what other items need to be servied and when ? eg diesel and air filter, coolant etc. I have just purchased an 05 1201kz TD Pilbara and its coming up for 230,000km service. I was thinking that if i do oil at 235k what appart from oil should be done at 230k ? Btw i love the prado, awesome car and have enjoyed reading through this forum.
Thanks in advance for any advice, cheers Bruce

Do you have a service history for the vehicle Bruce? Some things could be checked to see what work has been done in the way of previous maintenance. Generally it's oil and filters, some services require more fluids (auto box, brakes, etc.), but at the age of your vehicle it would be good to know what 'has' been done recently past. I don't have that model engine so my service manual would be different but I can looik in my Gregories for you.

    Timing belt every 150,000km
    Valve clearance every 40,000km
Coolant every 40,000km (states 120 series 160,000km then 80,000, but that would be a stretch IMHO)
Auto fluids every 50,000km (recommended by Roo and others here)
    Brake/clutch fluids every 40,000km
Diffs and box oil every 40,000km
    Fuel filter every 20,000km

Thats the major bits outside of the standard engine oils and filters I can see. The usual inspect all other items for wear etc.

It would be nice to establish if the glow plugs had been changed recently on that model, they can fail and take a piston with them. Other than that it should be a solid vehicle, check for rust under the rear/front door rubbers.

PS I'm no mechanic, just a Prodo owner

Hi Peril, Thanks for your reply, I have most of the service records but some are not filled out . The timing belt was done according to the label under the hood but generaly the normal service only ?. The car came from CMI Adelaide and they have done their usual 96 point safety check (going from what i read not 100% comforting lol) so i unfortunatly can only assume the other checks have been done in the servicing ?. She seems to be all in great condition so i can only hope that it has been looked after, i just want to make sure i look after her and get a great run out of her.
      Cheers Bruce

Hi Bruce69, I'm in a similar position to you. Purchased a 1kz in May and had a reasonably complete service history. The vehicle appeared not to have done much off road work and it was used as a touring vehicle from a country town in NSW. Only low (95,000) kms, not bad for an '03 model. My first service was done by a mechanic I have known for a while and trust. He also drive a 1kz. At his recommendation he changed the glo plugs and checked the injectors as well as changing the fuel and oil filters, all transmission oils (gear box and transfer case), both diffs and brake fluid. Finally, again at his recommendation, he did the timing belt as it was 10 years old. I will continue to get him to do the 10,000 service, I will check and change the oils at 5,000 kms. I hope to get well over 200,000 out of her as I am very happy so far. She's no speed demon but then I didn't buy it for racing at Bathurst.....
        Common sense isn't that common.....

            1kz service

            Hi
If you are interested there are a couple of good third party workshop manuals which give you an idea of what and when components should be changed or looked at. Even if you dont do your own servicing these are handy for helping to understand your vehicle and trying to diagnose any issues.

            Regards
