  • Over the last month the motor has lost power 3 times

I have a 2007 Prado diesel, 14 months ago I replaced the motor (a different problem) Over the last month the motor has lost power 3 times, the engine is still running, the engine management lights comes on but there is no response from the accelerator. I have to pull over turn off the motor and restart it, problem fixed but management lights still on. To reset them I have to turn the ignition on wait 1min then off wait 1min then start the engine. Could it be the DP chip? Has anyone had the same problem?

I can't comment on the DP Chip, but if the management light is on - there could be something else going on.

I left a very small hose off of the EGR, and had no management lights - but engine went in to limp mode. 2500 Max RPM and no power out of that RPM.

Process of elimination. So what happens when you remove the DP chip?

If the engine light is coming on then it is likely throwing a code of some sort. First step would be to get a reader of some description in order to check for fault codes, once you know that you can investigate further.

I can read fault codes with my scangauge, there are other options as well.

        Cheers Andrew

Fault codes can be read without a diagnostic tool straight off the dash light by putting the ECU into diagnostic mode (simple jumper wire placed in the DLC plug). There's a write up on it somewhere on the forum including a list of basic codes.

I have run a DP Chip on my Prado since 2009. In recent times I have been getting a number of check engine light warnings. These have been recorded as "Over fuelling". One was to do with a "turbo server" issue. The first couple of check engine lights including the "turbo server" issue were prior to my replacing my injectors. I replaced my exhaust with a Beaudesert exhaust last year (prior to replacing the injectors). Since the exhaust and the replacement of my injectors, I have been getting some "check engine" light incidents (about four), all "over fuelling". I started at #6, then #5, then #4, I still got a "check engine" light. I am on a trip towing my caravan and I removed the DP Chip. I am surprised how well the car drives with just the exhaust. I am getting good fuel consumption and no check engine light. The strangest thing about the "over fuelling" issue was that it occurred when after powering with the throttle, I backed off and then put a gentle application of the throttle, the "check engine" light came on. I will be contacting Berrima when I get home.

            Regards

            Garry
