Engine Oil

Any one Know what brand / Blend (15w40 etc ) Toyota put in the TD from the Factory
The Gxl is due for its first service next month and will probably run a Castrol or Caltex oil.
Im going to do the 5000 KM services myself and the dealer can to the 10000 intervals.

I've run Mobil Synth S in my Hilux Surf diesel for about 6 years now. It's been a great oil, quietening down the engine and providing smooth starts and running. It's a 10W-40 oil and meets all the minimum operating requirements. I'll be using it in the Prado when I get it.

If you can afford it, run Mobil 1. It's the bees knees re: all of the above. Has heaps of pH balance additives and I've run it out to 7,500km between oil changes and had a sample tested to check its condition.... the result it was still in good shape. So you could feasibly run Mobil 1 out to a 10,000km change interval on a Toyota indirect injection diesel motor and it still be withing operating spec. Kind of pays for itself that way! Will be a better story again when the D4D comes to the Aussie Prado in Oct06. The direct injection diesels are cleaner running, leaving much less soot in the oil.

For some more info on the good oil for early to mid 1990's Toyota indirect injection diesel engines (the 1KZTE hails from 1994 FYI), you might find the following link interesting reading. The same principles are relevant for the later generation 1KZTE engines now in the Australian Prado, with the general exception that later API certifications (eg: CF-4, CI-4 etc) would be more pertinent.

Fancy seeing you here mate. I traded my surf in on a Prado and ended up here...... how bout that eh.....

I just saw your post in the Electrical section and submitted a post to check if it was you. Turns out it is! Like you say..... fancy seeing you here! :shock:

Looks like you've gone and bought yourself a Prado mate! I like your style! I've not migrated yet but I'm in the market for an 04/05 V6 petrol. Shouldn't be too long now. PM me and we'll catch up. I'd like to know what you think of the diesel Prado.
