  • Injector Replacement - diesel mechanic recommendation in SE Melbourne?

    Hi,

Sept 2007 D4D, ~94000kms. Serviced at Toyota for 1st 4yrs & with local mechanic for remainder

Had Toyota perform an injector test whilst they were performing the towbar recall work & they have advised all 4 need to be replaced. I'll be discussing options & $ with them tomorrow & get the injector readings.

I have read the injector & rattle threads. Once Toyota provide a price, I'm guessing I'll be looking for alternatives

My mechanic would prefer the work be done at Toyota or a specialised diesel shop. Any recommendations for a mechanic in SE Melbourne familiar with the Prado 120 & injector replacement (thinking of Baileys + pipes + inlet manifold & EGR check / clean)?

    thanks,

    Steve

I haven't used them, but a few people have mentioned good things about Central 4WD in Moorabbin.

I think the combo of them and Baileys will smash your Toyota quote, just watch you don't hit your head on anything when you fall over from the Toyota quote.

    Good luck with it all!

Seriously guys, i have a bit of a man crush on Pete from Central 4WD. Let me explain, i spent 3 days down there doing some 'training' with them, and during that time, I've never seen a company who was so committed to their clients and in reverse, their clients completely trusting them. Now i don't live in Melbourne I am sure there are others around, but during the whole time i was there, the amount of times people just dropped their car off with a 'fix it - i don't care what the bill is, it will be what it will be, i trust you' was ridiculous. Currently, we would sell 1-3 sets of 7780 injectors weekly to these guys, so they can pretty much do it with their eyes closed now.

John Diesel, Guests 4WD and VJ Diesel are all similarly up to the task - just I've spent the time with C4WD so that's what i know.

        Anyway guys, Hope this helps

Picked up the car from Toyota. Injector readings were
          #1 0.7 0.7 0.7 0.6
          #2 1.5 1.8 2.0 2.1
          #3 -2.9 -3.3 -3.5 -3.6
          #4 0.1 0.1 0.3 0.3

Quote to replace them was just shy of $3K (parts, labour). Given what I've read here it was better than expected. Inlet manifold cleaning extra

Will drop by Central 4WD in the morning

          Appreciate the input / recommendation

          thanks,

          Steve

Booked in with Central 4WD for the end of the month (strangely enough they have 6 - 7 Prado's booked for injector replacement ahead of mine). Central 4WD is very close to home - making it easier than crossing town for Cornells.

Thanks again for the recommendations. Will let you know the outcome

Picked the car up tonight. Very happy with Central 4WD. It is idling perfectly. Looking forward to taking it on a reasonable drive

Injectors, lines, seals replaced, Intake manifold and EGR cleaned, oil pickup checked, oil filter & oil changed, cooling system flushed.

They've seen plenty of Prado's with much more sludge & carbonisation in the manifold, EGR and pickup than they found in mine - so good news

Thanks to the members here for posting about the issue & for the recommendation on Bailey's and Central 4WD

                cheers,

                Steve

Great news Steve, glad you're happy > and thanks for posting the outcome. so many questions come and go one these forums, and of course, once someone has found a solution the problem (and also communication) goes away meaning no one else can learn from using the search function. So thanks on that one too

                      hi D4D

$2700. Quote from Toyota was just shy of $3000 but didn't include the Intake manifold, EGR or oil pickup. I'd estimate another $1K for that.

Only done about 40km today but it is definitely driving better. After reading the most recent horror stories of destroyed engines I'm very happy I got it looked at.
