  • When do injectors need attention on 06 120 pre D4D

    Hi guys,
I really love Pradopoint, so much knowledge out there,
I have read most of the points on injectors but nothing for me, I have an 06,120 pre D4D ,had it for a good year or so now has 185 000 ks ,now ,do my oil and filters every 5000, economy From full tanks to half full ( when the 90 lts light comes on ) i get about 730 ks ,plus or minus ,it starts first time , not to noisy for a diesel,no smoke, nothing in service history about injectors,so was wondering if to just to leave well alone or get things checked, like i say have no problems but is there any recommendations, have spoken to a few people with OLD cruisers with hundreds of thousands on the clock and never touched injectors,
I live northern suburbs of Perth, so any good prado mechanics around,
plenty of Toyota Dealers but they seem to charge what they like,
    Would appreciate your thoughts,
    Alan.

If you look up the D4Detonation thread you'll see my 08 prado has recently had a catastrophic injector failure at 175,000km with NO warning signs or common symptoms. If your still on the original set of injectors, or have no evidence of them being replaced, I would STRONGLY recommend you consider replacing them ASAP. Yeah it'll cost you a couple of grand, but it's far better then the $10,000 that I'm looking at for an engine rebuild.

Hi ,i see your point, but often hear about D4D injectors with the higher pressure giving trouble,
Heard the pre D4D motor with the lower pressure was less troublesome ,
But thats why im asking the question, but scary hey,
      Thanks, Alan.

The 1kz won't destruct from bad injectors.
Injectors are "around" $300 exchange for the set of 4 including new seals and the change over is easily in the scope of any mechanically minded DIYer.

If your anal you do them around 150K but they will last much longer they just get more inefficient the more k's they have on them.

Sorry, missed the PRE and just read D4D. My post is irrelevant to you.

Pretty much any injector is going to showing its age by 100k. You can get a lot more life then that out of them but you will pay for it with reduced performance and increased fuel consumption. At 185k I would say its time for a fresh set.

            Cheers Andrew

If your fuel economy gets bad, if the vehicle is not running well, you might want to look into it.
If it runs as good as ever, which I trust a serviced 1kz to do, then you don't need to worry about it.
Change out those glow plugs, if you have not done so.
If its economy gets worse or seems sluggish at all, then that is time to do injectors perhaps.
Many experts will tell you to do them every 150k.
I've seen them working perfectly well at 300k not sure beyond that.

With regards to the 1kz-te injectors; when people have been replacing them, have you been replacing the fuel lines to the pump as well, i read that they were not a serviceable item and should be replaced if removed. is this correct?

                thanks,
                Scott.

Long story cut short!.... No!!... You do not have to replace once removed!.... You replace if damaged!!

EG: Mechanic over torqued/ Bent or twisted on removal or fitted.

It is not a wives tail or a husband tail but a "Workshop Tail" designed to make more money on parts & the deal is sealed with "Peace of mind!

                  Cheers

No need to replace fuel lines on the 1kz, even the D4D whilst recommended its not totally necessary.

                    Cheers Andrew

thanks guys, i was trying to workout why they couldn't be reused, you have confirmed my thoughts.
                      cheers,

Change out those glow plugs, if you have not done so.
                        Ditto!
Change them every 100K for cheap insurance against tip failure. (Known to break off and get belted around in the combustion camber)
They're not expensive so buy decent ones made in Japan or Germany.

                          Thanks for the input guys,
Read a bit about codes when changing injectors, haven't got a clue what all that is about , Is the 1KZ just take out and replace or is there a bit more to it, i understand about keeping things clean but is that about it,
About glow plugs,do they have a life span,my car starts first time so can i assume they are still ok,I don't mind changing things when there broke ???
Thanks again chaps, like i said ,this sight is so full of info and knowledgable people.
                          Cheers Alan.

No codes for the injectors, they are a purely mechanical device. Just take out and replace.
Do the glow plugs at the same time, consider it preventative maintenance and cheap insurance.

                              Thanks for that Mick,
                              I. will have a look and have a go, I did read to buy Denso injectors , because Toyota use Denso and also own the company,
                              Thanks again.
