  • d4d injector replacement

    Hi

Just found out I need to replace all injectors on Prado. Toyota quote $3300 includes pipes, gaskets etc. Many questions?
What prices have other paid given this seems a very common problem at around 150k mark (mine has done 140k)?
Has anyone been able to get any compensation from Toyota? This Prado has always been serviced by Toyota at the scheduled times?
Live in western Vic so any suggestions for alternative places in Ballarat Geelong or Horsham appreciated

    many thanks

    Geoff,

    1. Do not think you have a chance at compo!

    2. I replaced mine with injectors from BAILEYS at Unanderra NSW. They will supply to you or workshops, etc. They charged me less than $1500 to supply and fit about 18 mths ago.

    3. They are diesel specialists and believe their injectors are better than Toyotas.

    Bruce.

      Hi,

Compensation for what, aren't the injectors a serviceable item?

I would expect injectors to last more than 140000km?

Maybe the old school mechanical injectors.

The Baileys website has a lot more information on why the injectors don't last that long.

Agree... The old style injectors lasted alot more than that even though said u needed to service them at 100k.... Along comes new Technology & yet they fail to be able to design a injector that can last more than the so called 150k mark and then charge a fortune for it...... Surely in this day and age they could design a fail safe mechanism that prevents the engine destruction when the injector fails ??? How many other modern design diesel engines have this problem as well ???

Some do but I wouldn't have thought that 140k from a set of injectors was so bad that you would be looking for compensation. Fact is the modern diesel runs much higher pressures and much finer tolerances than the old school diesels. We all want the power and the economy but also want all the components to last longer as well.

Scroll to the top of this page and you will find a link to Baileys injectors, certainly a cheaper option for you. If you are handy with the spanners then Baileys also have a pretty good DIY guide.

              Cheers Andrew

I'm going to change them out with baileys ones at winter time (quite time for us) might have a go at it myself. Had the values checked at Christmas when they did the tow bar recall and one was at 2.5 mm others were fine. No rattles or smoke they were pulled at 150k to have the seats replaced (had coated one in it anyway).
                      Cheers.

Yeah mjrandon, all over it , I do all my own servicing oil and filter every 5k Cheak the screen etc I don't think I'll put too many more ks on them as I am hoping for a lot of Kms out of the old prado!
                        Cheers.

                          Geoff Saul;
the older injectors were a bloody basic unit, working at around 800 bar and fired once a stroke.

The new injectors work at anything upto 1600 bar and fire 3-4 times per stroke. So really, they've at least 3 times the work of an older injector for the same Km's + working pressures of twice the old style. Its no surprise that they wear out faster.

That being said, they also provide much better fuel economy with more power, the pay off is that they are more expensive to replace. In my mind however, $3300 is far too steep

We highly recommend you use new genuine DENSO/ Toyota Injectors.
Do them before its too late.
                            Check them every 10,000k.

My 2011 has now done 282k without issue - but, like azzs, I too think I'm playing with fire. The question for me is not when (that would probably be ASAP) but where in Sydney can one be confident of an excellent job using genuine Toyota parts?
