DON'T use the strap type of oil filter wrench. You will crush the can, distort the seal and the filter will leak. I know, I have done it and, before you tell me, I didn't do it up too tight. Use the proper tool as previously shown in this thread. Not only is it inexpensive but it is the easiest tool to use. If you do your own servicing, you are saving heaps so make your life easy.
Just my 2 bob's worth.

Dune D4D GXL, ARB bar & racks, Kings/Bilsteins, diff & g'box breathers, underbody protection, air comp, brake controller, Garmin Nuvi, Scangauge II, AGM aux battery & RanOx.
I just tried to order one of these spanners for my Oct Build diesel and the part number given on here is no good for my vehicle.
The 08 Parado has a smaller filter I'm told.
The guy found the right part number and I will post it once it's known to me.
The price inc gst is about $40.00

I've never used ANY tool when putting an Oil Filter on. Always just hand tighten it and have never had any trouble over the years. Yes, use a tool to get it off if you need to, but always hand tighten when putting a new one on.
I have to let the dealer service it every 10,000k, however I want to change the oil every 5000k.
Hence, if the dealer puts it on tight, I will be able to get it off with the spanner.

Find a CAT dealership (Hasting Deering In QLD). Ask for a 1/2 inch drive filter removing strap. They are about $20. They will shit the toyota filter in, no issues....
Part number for a 120 series 03 - diesel is p/n 0922810002

Bought the Oil Filter Spanner today (Melbourne City) and the total price including GST was $34.38-
Part number was still 09228-07501 applicable to my late 07 model.
That's not bad.
I'm planning to do 5,000km oil & filter changes when I do heavy driving and when conditions get extreme.
The oil doesn't look that good after 10,000 km of 'normal' driving.

I used to use a large pair of adjustable grips but I've just bought this one, and I marked on the top with White marker, I, II, III at 1/3rds so you know how far to turn when tightening the new filter.
Works a treat. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/182307472...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
