  • Good Diesel Mech SE Melboune to do my injectors ?

Hi all, been a long time since I have posted on this forum.

I still have my 2008 D4-D 120 Prado, and I love it, but it has just clicked over 100,000 km and I want to get the injectors checked, and probably replaced.

I have a good mechanic (not Toyota ) but wondering if I should get a specialist diesel place to do it ???

So can anyone recommend a good specialist place in Melbourne, preferably in the Dandenong /Packenham /Berwick area ?

Also, what to people think of the Techstream1KD diagnostic unit sold by Baileys, I would like to check the injector readings myself ?

Sorry if these questions have been answered already, I did a search but my skills might be a little rusty.
    Cheers, Wayne

I believe Central 4WD are recommended by Baileys...

I have an injector problem and rang the dealer today 2nd Jan 2015. I was told there is a recall on KD model from June 2006 and they will do the injector seals under warranty, however you need to wait a month to get the letter in the mail.
I cant wait so I am having them done Monday.

        Orville,
It is not listed on the Aus recall website yet
        https://www.recalls.gov.au/content/i.../itemId/952857

BUT this is what i just read and same was said by another dealer.

"Got this come through late this arvy toyota come late January early February will be recalling July 06 to dec 07 hiluxs not all it goes off a vin range & July 04 to jan 08 1kd prado again certain vin ranges to replace the injector seats. Basically the time now is gathering parts supply & tools for the job as previously recalls been announced before parts or tooling was available.
Only had a quick skim of the bulletin before knock off but something like 40000 hiluxs in that range. Would've thought would've went further back but it is what it is. Vehicles that are found with carbon on the pickup will get cleaned & new oil & filter."

Maybe it is Toyota's Christmas present....

        Cheers
        Robert

              About time!

Well I hope this is what they are doing, too late for so many people it has cost thousands, I think now they have a fair claim & a good case.
Imagine your prado engine blew up & then 12 months later you get a recall notice.........

                That's pretty good,
Good news, not sure about timing for it.
They will be flat out cleaning Hilux oil pickups, bloody lot of work to do.

I have the same vehicle & too love it.

Great idea getting the tech stream. You do need to watch those injectors. Even better idea to replace them.

                      Thanks for the replies all.

I have ordered a TechStream Mini VCI cable from ebay ( Bailey's "standard" shipping cost of $22 for such a small thing was a bit hard to take, otherwise I would haver ordered from them. )

I have not had any problems with cold start rattle, vehicle runs very well. I think my vehicle was one of the first to get the upgraded injectors. ( late 2008 build ) so I doubt any recall will apply to me ??

The plan is to get the Techstream and read the injector stats, then I can determine how quickly I need to move.

I am then going to ring around a few diesel places like Central 4WD and Johns Diesel in Hallam and get quote for injector replacement. I will specify the DLC injectors from Baileys are to be fitted.

I want to replace the stock injectors regardless, before the vehicle gets to 130,000km. Should be then good for another 130K.

Does that sound like a good plan ?

Has anybody had anything to do with South East Diesel Services in Pakenham or John Diesel in Hallam ?

                            PM me if you want.

Just that they are a little more closer to me than Central 4WD.

Mate of mine with a medium sized fleet has used SE diesel services for years. No complaints.
