Yes I do but did you use Google? Go to advance options and type in pradopoint.com for the site / domain and it will only search that site.

So, as it turns out my injector values returned positive results. So much so that there appears to be no reason to change them. Toyota reflashed the ECU with the cold start knock code. There is now a definite improvement and the tractor like 'knock' sound is barely there and almost non existent. I started her up this morning at 04:50 (was about 6 degrees outside) and she was parked nose down, I did not notice any smoke.

I had the sump removed to check the oil intake (I know not required, don't ask) and got the all clear. I also had the fuel tested for contaminants and none were found.

So for now I will be holding off replacing the injectors, I am sure I will have to do them at some stage, will just have to wait and see.

Anyhow, I have attached a copy of the report with the injector values (note, the cold test was done at 08:00 and not 06:00 which is when I generally leave for work and noticed the issue originally)...

          • $250 to drop the pan and have a look?

I think I found another reason NOT to deal with a Toyota Dealership for "repairs".

            Others have inspection cameras....

Is it just the knock or is there the white smoke on start up as well?

            • I know $250 to drop the pan and have a look is a rip, I could have done this myself, or even waited until my baseplates arrived and had a look with a torch whilst I was under there fitting them up. I asked Toyota about the camera and they didn't have one. Either way I was really worried about the noise to the point of not driving it unless absolutely necessary, plus with work and a little one I have had zero time to do this kind of stuff (which I enjoy) but this couldn't wait.

I did have white smoke before, not a lot, but there was some. It was about as much smoke as 5 people exhaling after a cigarette all at once. On the day Toyota had it for the morning test they said there was no smoke (before the ECU reflash), then I started her early this morning and had no smoke either, all times were with the nose down.

                • I'm on original injectors, mileage is 87K. I don't mind having to swap them out every 130K-150K.

                    • Just finished my latest journey into the great outback of OZ with 9,000km of trouble free driving on the engine making it 25,000 on the new motor. Still can't get that IT2 to work.

                      • Hey guys and girls,

Just thought I should relay another episode of Toyota service staff incompetence:

I purchased my 07 Prado with 113,000km on the clock earlier this year and have just recently become another injector fault statistic.

After a few months of loving the new beast (I upgraded from an 89 Hilux Surf with an endless number of issues so I was loving life) I noticed a slight rattle. From reading about the problems with the 1KD-FTV I was very concerned. I went back and forth to Toyota asking them to inspect the rattle and check the injectors. Toyota firstly couldn't fault the rattle and subsequently found the injectors to be in spec (I was briefly VERY relieved). However, they found low compression in cylinder four and I had to undergoe valve repairs due to a carbon build up at a cost of some $5,000 on top of the cost for the 120,000km service. Unfortunately, I picked up the car and on a cold start the rattle had not changed. I was NOT happy and immediately returned to Toyota. This time they found the injectors to be out of spec (specifically number four - a coincidence? I think not) and proposed replacing the set for a cost of $5,500. Now I was just shattered.

I have sinced had the set replaced by Cornell Fuel Injection in Sunshine, VIC, apparently the only company Australia wide authorised to repair and replace the Denso injectors (Toyota even send injectors to them to get parts replaced). I highly recommend these guys as they really seem to know what they are doing.

Car is running like a dream now and I am pursuing Toyota for costs of seemingly unnecessary repairs.

I suppose my experience shows that if you report to Toyota that you have a rattle at the 1,500-2,000 rev range even if Toyota test the injectors and they report that they are all ok, that does not mean your injectors are not on the way out or that they are actually out of spec under certain engine conditions. Toyota only do a preliminary test so if you are concerned I would definitely recommend going through an injector specialist for a more thorough test (Cornell if you are in the Melbourne Metro Region) that will pick up fluctuations in injector performance. Obviously replacing the injectors is an expensive job regardless, but if they are not fixed/replaced as soon as possible it could lead to further major engine damage.

                        Cheers,

                        Kaine

Well, I have a rebuilt long engine and Baileys injectors - and now have a 2 year warranty on both (engine is 24 months/ 40,000KM) - out of pocket $11, 353. But new clutch, new fuel pump, new fuel filter. Unsurprisingly thus far (drove it from shop to home) running like it should. Noticing more power and better shifting - and it is sooo quiet! See my earlier threads, clogged sump screen.

The dealer suspected O-Rings and EGR clean - before I new it sump blocked and the above...

                          • Hi Kain,

Did you go L/M in DP by any chance.
                            Getting the same run around.
Injectors in spec so nothing can be wrong.

Was lucky my seals where replaced at 80000k service in Bunbury, WA out of all places.
Big thanks to the blokes over there. Cant get the same sort of help here.
Checked the screen and all is still clean.
But still have the big shakes in the morning.

Can I ask how much it cost at Cornell?

                            Thanks

Inspection was $160 and full replacement parts (injectors, gaskets, fuel filters etc.) and labour for $3500.

Have a chat to them and they will be able to talk you through exacty what they can do differently to a standard test from Toyota.

                              All the best.

                              • Ekato;
I might chime in here and say that with our injectors you will be able to get the same results, with twice the warranty, and really, should be less than half the above paid pricing. there are a bunch of repairers down that way who can sort these issues out. PM me if your interested and with your location, and we can point you in the right direction.
                                Regards
