If you went with Bailey's injectors, which there is nothing wrong with them, you would be looking at $2,500.00, but that doesn't include the pipes. Comparing apples with apples. The common rail expert that was there, Clinton Brett, Walter sacked him from Rocklea Diesel. He was also the Denso dealer there as well. After buying some injectors for Anthony's KZJ120 from Rocklea Diesel, and the nozzles were rusting, I haven't been back there since. I had to spend an hour cleaning the rust off from around the nozzles. I was not happy, seeing that Walter and Sue had made thousands of dollars from my forum recommendations. Just PM Anthony if you don't believe me, Rob, about his injectors, and the condition of them. I know longer recommend Rocklea Diesel, and yes, Clinton is my mate. The compensation code entering is included in that price. As is the initialization. Such a big word for a little job. I have two diagnostic tools, the Bosch KTS-340 and the Toyota Intelligent Tester Tool II. I use my KTS-340 on other brands and when I do dealership diagnostics. The IT11 is excellent on all things Toyota brand, and Lexus. To be frank, I could do the same job that Rocklea Diesel is doing, for under $2,400.00, with the Bailey's injectors. $2,398.00 actually. I would come to you to Rob, mobile. That's just what they are doing, the injector job only and the entering of the codes. One full day if no problems are found. No EGR removal or new pipes. I have worked on your vehicle before, so there shouldn't be any problems, like stripped threads and the like. John.
Thanks John, Yes I guess and it seemed as much when I asked if they replaced the pipes. And they said no, just reuse.

Indeed, I would only have someone like you that I trust do it anyway. I am just hoping I dont develop the death rattle any time soon.
Apart for the the cost and annoyance, just imagine Hutch and Richo giving me stick for the next year, about the 200 killerwasp petrol reliability....

    Cheers
    Robert

That is almost what happened to me, though I didn't hear the bang or had the black smoke...

Stopped while idling, had a "flicker" on oil light - and then hear a very loud rattle. As it turns out, damage was done - driving it further (after topping off the dipstick), didn't really do anymore damage.

              Needless to say $13K later....

So does that mean that injector 3 is shagged? Whats the max tolerance, is it + or - 3? Does yours rattle at all switched?

Injector 3 is, and injector 1 is on its way... Injector 1 a few days ago was at around 3.5 so Im going to replace them all. I'll look at doing the valve clearance check while I'm in there - the non-audible way or should I say the only real way.....

Occasionally the injectors are a little noisier up to around 2K RPM when cold, but nothing that has had me worried, and no more then the day I picked it up.. I know at 80K service they were all in spec, although toyota never did get back to me on the values.

                  It should be 0 +/- 3 mm3..

                  • I think i better get mine checked sooner rather than later. I have a few more ks than you and haven't had mine checked for a while. I've done all the other checks/mods (apart from install the racor sitting in the shed) but haven't checked feedback values.

This is not good, and I would advise you not to drive the vehicle until you change out the injectors. At least, limit your driving of your vehicle in this case.
We don't want piston damage, do we.
I am glad some members are getting onto this, before the piston problem occurs. That's what it's all about, preventative maintenance.
It's really good to see, and really makes me happy.
Just PM me, if you want me to guide you through the change out of the injectors and the EGR cleaning. Valve clearance check should be done at the same time, as well.
                          Catch you later, John.
You know, in this day and age of fancy computers and electronic micro switching controls and sensors why wouldn't any manufacturer (read this Mr Toyota) put a program into the car's ECM to show a warning when the injector readings go out of spec? I mean how hard could it be? The question should probably be why haven't they done it and what have they got to gain by not doing it?

Expensive rebuilds outside of warranty. It's just us lucky(unlucky) ones that get it done inside of our warranty window Dave.

I hear ya. My mate hear has had no luck after he took his car to Toyota with excessive smoking engine. They said nothing wrong. Now it's rattling like a chaff cutter and Tojo don't want to know.

I had 'exactly' the same thought a few days ago whilst shopping for some laptop software to measure this with. They could 'easilly' have added this to the active dash warning system in the Prado.

They rather the car go boom and we by a new one.
