Hi Guys, newbie to the forum!
I have an 06 D4D Prado that I've owned since new. Has only done approx. 123,000Km. Last Saturday I decided to investigate the excessive smoke on start up ( after sitting) that the wifey was complaining about. When I saw the amount of Black/Grey smoke and the erratic idle that lasted a minute or so - I deduced I had a leak-down problem in an injector or 2 ! Decided to attack it there and then with the intent of changing the 4 injectors out. Discovered 3 out of 4 had blow by on the injector seal and the combustion gases had actually forced the oil O ring up the injector and torn/smeared them. Lot of granulated carbon around the injectors which also co-incidentally have an oil gallery linking then all just above the O ring. So immediately dropped the oil and the sump to check the pick-up screen - thankfully as clean as the day it went in there. Next step was to find a worthwhile supplier of replacement injectors, several stages of heart palpitations ensued after discovering the cost - anywhere between $460 and $600 and apparently no exchange options available. After googling a few threads I came across Bailey's Diesel Service. What a pleasant surprise - exchange injectors offered, blueprinted and a 2 year warranty. Ordered them Monday arrived Tuesday and fitted them Wednesday night. Nett cost of approx. $1100 after returns. The Prado has it's MOJO back! runs smoother, idles quieter and definitely pulls better when you give it a kick. Tanks to the Prado Point forum for all the comments etc it has been helpful. p.s. I did try Toyota on regards the seal failures but no luck there :-(
