There is allot of information missing from that statement?

EG #1 If the hilux had only done 40k then there is something seriously wrong with it in the first place? - No badly worded - it had only done 40,000 kms with a catch can fitted.

Don't know anything else about its history. Agree re my own vehicle. It is running beautifully. Still researching the catch can issue.

    • hey Guys dont no if this chat has covered this or not... 100 something pages is a lot to read. but was wondering if anyone has had the same issue as i am currently having with my d4d. 2008 model. 150 000 on the clock. everytime it idles it shakes like buggery. I no this is my injectors failing but the question i have is i have been told by a few people that the injectors are no longer repairable. is this true. as toyota gave me a quote for almost 5 grand to replace.

thanks guys and sorry if this has been covered

        Hi Benny,

Do you 'know' its your injectors (ie have feedback results) or 'assume'?
Reason I say that is engine mounts can also cause the engine to shake like buggery.

Suggest you have the cold and hot injector feedback results checked and IF its in the injectors call Baileys Diesel Group (1800 465 328 and also a PP retail member)
They'll steer you in the right direction with an local njector specialist to do the work - for a lot less than $5k too...
        Cheers
        Micheal.

          • Hey Mate.

I was first made aware it was my injectors by a mate who worked for toyota for a few years. after he told me that i got my car serviced at toyota in which they told me my injectors need replacing. they suggested a 'Flush' which did nothing. after two more services of two different toyotas (moving towns) i had been told they need replacing. the last toyota in maitland told me my engine mounts also need changing.

So pretty much thats what i have been going off so far. i should get them to give me the feedback results.

Cheers mate ill get into contact with them.

            • I have a 06 prado that is a 3 litre diesel, it was making strange noises when starting that would go after around 5minutes of driving. My mechanic told my to turn engine on and let the car warm up before driving due to a piston issue in some prados, otherwise it would be an expensive repair job to fix them. Well in a rush last week and jumped in and drove off in a hurry only for my car to start stalling around corners. I pulled over because it would now not start. After about 5 mins it started and i made it very slowly 2kms downnthe road to a mechanic. Seems as though my oil filter has clogged up and i have blown the engine. Now dont know what to do: sell it is is and not get much for it(no idea what) and upgrade or replace the engine? Any opinions and ideas on how much i would get or cost of replacement??

              • Yep been there....

Sounds like you need a new mechanic....What he told you was rubbish (I'm running under the assumption of 1KD-FTV - D4-D).

I'll go out on a limb and say the injectors were never changed - and that you have over 150K km on the clock.

Depending on what went wrong - but you are in for at least $10K....

                  • Hi everyone
I've had a brief read of this thread but am a bit overwhelmed by 150+ pages! I Have a 2006 Prado with 70,000 on the clock and it has that rattle/tapping for the first 5 minutes of driving. As far as I can understand it's the injectors, so if I go to Toyota will they know the problem I'm talking about, or even better, what exactly needs to be done to resolve the problem, is it just a matter of putting the correct injectors in? I imagine this is going to be pricey but really need to get on top of it before it goes bang! Sorry i bet it gets annoying answering the same question over and over but just looking for a specific answer. Thanks

                        Hey scotty,

Yes lots of reading & it can get quite confusing.
The good news is you only have 70k on the clock that's great. Also you own a great vehicle the 120 Prado.
You should take it to a CRD expert. Rather than Toyota, FACT: I have seen many examples of the dealers telling owners the vehicles injectors are fine, when they are not.
Your 2006 Prado likely has copper seats, they have a high chance of leaking & may be already leaking, not good!

Here s a perfect example of what happens if you get to it late: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...795#post481795
A short thread to read & you will get the picture.

You can also search & read up on rustys post, he changed his injectors with new DENSO ones from either Amayam or Rick (2 of the few best places to get cheap new injectors) & those new injectors let him down not too far down the track. (not that it matters where you get them). They are wear items & vary widely how fast they deteriorate.

If you want to learn more FACTS about these injectors, I would suggest you do some reading ON BAILEYS DIESEL website, they explain about where they see the wear & how they have overcome it. The full DLC coated spindle that is.

In the mean time: warm it up before you drive it, if its very rattly it's doing damage to the pistons.
If the rattling is very bad or it's running rough or blowing smoke don't drive it.
Get those injector feedback values checked ASAP. Change out the injectors with the updated injectors & seats is the aim, I think.

                        ####.

                            • Thanks for the help, especially ####, very informative! Has anybody had any luck with going to Toyota themselves to try and get some help financially for this problem? The family business has owned the Prado since new and did take it to Toyota on a number of occasions asking them what the rattle was and to fix it but they obviously never touched the injectors, always tried to blame something else. It's only now after I have taken over driving it that I can't stand driving it the way it is.

Im told There are ppl that have sued Toyo & won.
Some ppl have been covered, some only for part of it.
Many are told they are not covered & also told they are within spec, when they are not.
Generally outside warranty, that's it. Even under warranty they only change 1 or 2 injectors.......
You have to weigh up if its worth the trouble, change out the wear n tear items before you do too much damage
